Re: Gateway College Folding to UGST

I understand a full liberal arts college needs a sports team... How about a hulahoop team for the ladies and Shockamoo tag team for the guys!??

Re: Gateway College Folding to UGST

As I understand it some of the criteria for true being a liberal arts college involve quite a bit of expense like a full library, sports facilities, etc. I believe Great Lakes University (started by the church in Pontiac MI) got around some of this by getting some other local educational institution of higher learning to allow them to share their library, etc.

By the way does anybody have an update on Great Lakes Universities efforts to become accredited?

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Would love to see an Apostolic College have a sports team! I never understood the sports restriction that some Apostolics have, probably because I'm PAW and we have father and son basketball tournaments at our conventions. One day... we'll have a few decent colleges too.

I think Apostolic College, Bro. William's Bible School in Tulsa, OK had those same restrictions.

Re: Gateway College Folding to UGST

I believe ABI was accredited briefly. There were times that much of the "staff" had proper degrees.

Say what you will about Bro Sabin but he was a prof at a secular college before his ABI career.

I don't know if that's the best comparison to make. While BYU's "secular" efforts are very good, its also known as a center for the attempted substantiation of a fraudulent view of human history. Their media programs and especially their television channel offer ridiculous programming which all make the most outlandish claims.

When the UPC as a whole enters the realm of real scholarship, will they be able to withstand a rigorous peer review? It's the avoidance of critical examination that has prompted UPCers to seek their own schools in the first place.
