Re: Modesty Covers

Some of this stuff is really funny! Busting through a sheetrock wall in the Sanctuary? Yeah...I would wonder if this really was of God or what?

God is not reckless and the Holy Spirit would never be the cause of someone getting hurt. I really see no credible reason that anybody should run the backs of the pews. They can accomplish their shouting running the aisles?

While dancing is common, I must admit that the first time I ever seen somebody dance...I cracked up laughing....still do remember it over 30 years later. But then one time I danced...it's as if my feet had a life all of their own...I'm sure somebody cracked up at me dancing.

What's really funny is somebody laughing their lungs out. Ever been in one of those services?

Yep...years ago. The pastor would tell the congregation that he felt that "holy laugh" trying to come on the congregation.

Sho nuf, one would start cackling, then another then another till the majority were falling out on the floor laughing.

I would not waste five minutes with a mess like that today. Thank God for the blood and sound doctrine, Apostolic doctrine.

All the scenarios I've mentioned happened in a UPCI Church system.

Re: Modesty Covers

I never saw the extreme cases but certainly saw lots of demonstration of the "spirit".

I doubt God would cause injuries or unseemly exposure.

We go to church with a few people who are so ridiculous we have nicknamed them. The penguin, pogo stick, exit stage left, whirly, screaming meme, goldielocks, and exhibitionist annie. There is not a person in the church who if they ever overheard those names would not know exactly who we were talking about.

I think the problem you mention is the one that belongs to annie... even as a woman I do not desire to know what color another ladies panties are in nearly every service.

Short answer:

Yes I think it is unseemly but I'm an old prude.
YOU hit the nail on the head!!

I don't believe the Holy Ghost needs to work by having people uncovering themselves at all. Just isn't right. Something is wrong for sure.

If it is an accidental thing, that's one thing. But, on a regular basis - something else totally has gone wrong!

Well, I've seen in AMF, ACI, and UPC churches.

In one service, a lady I know broke her arm when the church was having its dedication service in the new building. All kinds of dignitaries present in teh service from the UPC. She got so excited going around the jericho that she forgot there was a wall there, and tried to make a door.... she lost...

Re: Modesty Covers

I have heard some funny ones too. However, many of them involved people who were not in the Spirit wanting to fake that they were in the Spirit. Some of them just needed to learn simple lessons like, slow down on the corner, run with eyes open (funny how so many need that lesson), run in the same direction (I never saw anyone hurt by disobeying this one, but they quickly started running in the same direction as the rest of the church), get out of the way of a Sister's braid/ponytail!! I do not know that I ever saw anyone injured in a worship service.

Re: Modesty Covers

I think a woman should dress modestly to church,so if they get slain the spirit they will be covered up.

Ya, except no amount of clothing can cover up stupidity.
