How about the internet? Shiny buttons on women's clothes? Open toed shoes (women)? Short sleeve shirts (men)?
Just where does so-called holiness end and the 'world' begin?

I guess you would need to ask the Spirit of God, I don't see anywhere that this change has been preached.

Re: Old Time Pentecost
We were in the UPC for most of the 80's and the church was probably closest to "old time Pentecost" our first year in when many of the women were dressed more like extra's from an episode of Little House on the Prairie then someone who should be willing to live modest yet not "stand out" for being different for mere differences sake. A few of the women still did the oatmeal thing under their hair in order to get the Marge Simpson hairstyle. Thank God this ended soon after we joined!
I will say that I recall people being just a bit more humble about their fashions in the beginning (our beginning) then even a few years later when the local family camp service was the equal to any given Red Carpet Hollywood movie premier. There were even camera flashes going off as certain women (who were usually the daughters of prominent ministers) arrived in the Michael Kors inspired dresses. I think this sort of behavior is shallow and mildly offensive when I see it happening on shows like Project Runway and the fashion industry in general but it is just plain offensive when I see it happening with a bunch of people who show nothing but pride for being "PENT-e-COSTAL!" and "Look at ME! I'm separate FROM the World! Amen!".

Re: Old Time Pentecost
God was with the Israelites. The Israelites were God's people and they served Him. God was making good on his promise to Abraham to make a great nation out of Abraham's seed. God provided for their every need UNTIL...they wanted to be like all the other nations around them. They wanted a king. God told them what to expect when you have a human ruler over you. They wanted a king anyway. It happened just the way God said it would.
Real Old Time Pentecost was when there were "brush arbors" and tent meetings. People would come from miles around to hear nothing but the preaching and praying down the Holy Ghost. Holiness was not defined into looks, dress, pomp and circumstances. Preachers and saints alike were persecuted for their beliefs, but God moved mightily in the lives of the people who believed Him. We saw more people getting the Holy Ghost, healings and services so powerful that you just shook all over because the mighty power of God was more than a human body could stand.
It began to change when the pentecostal movement wanted what the other denominations wanted. Buildings, padded pews, chandelier lights, mortgages, utilities, flat screen televisions, state of the art sound systems...you get the picture. While these things are great for comfort, we traded the mighty power of God... for comfort and to be more like the others.

Re: Old Time Pentecost
What characterized it for me was everyone's focus on God as the central part of their life. Witnessing, prayer, Bible reading, fasting...
Thinking about this thread has convicted me of some things that I have drifted off-course on.
Thanks for this thought.

Careful, the Spirit of God in you may just be confused.

I went to a UPCI event the other day for the first time in probably 3 years. Now I'm not bashing or throwing stones, but I was astounded at the difference. The difference in the atmosphere, in the worship, in annointing. It wasn't Old Time Pentecost. There was no travail, no tears, no shouting. Old Time Pentecost was mocked on a couple of occasions. God has put a burden in my heart for MORE and for the REAL. For those that will seek Him, that will crave Him, I really believe He is doing something spectacular in this last hour.

Thank you for that awesome testimony!
We have been experiencing quite the same
in our church too, brother!
There is no telling what God is about to do!!
Exciting days we are living in!!

Re: Old Time Pentecost
One problem guys. What about the unbiblical issues they teach? Sin for men to wear a beard? Sin for women to trim their hair? These false teachings have probably turned many thousands of people away from the Oneness Churches. And of course the very logical question is TV worse than the internet? This would just be a start of the teachings that cancel out some of the good things among old time Pentecost.
