Re: That Old King James
When you get married and hear Teddy Pendergrass music you'll change your mind.
I'm only giving you a hard time btw. I would say this however, not every song in that Old King James of ours is a song of praise or worship. I'd also add that I know some pretty "uber-spiritual" folks and the last thing on their minds on their wedding days were the Holy Ghost and worship. We are human and it's ok to be human.

Have no idea who that person is. Also, a song doesn't have to be edifying or uplifting to be a song of worship. I find no instances within Scripture that admonishes or encourages us to use music for any other way than in a sacred manner.
Your last line makes no sense. It sounds like sense we're human, and our flesh would want us to lean to those thoughts, just give in to them and don't honor marriage as the instituation from God that it is and try to elevate the marriage ceremony to a more spiritual event. No thanks. My flesh is to be crucified. I want to walk after the Spirit, not my flesh. I want to honor God in ALL things... and should I ever get married, I want a wedding just like the ones I've seen where it was full of worship, and adoration of the Lord Jesus Christ. I've been to weddings where there were messages in tongues and interpretation... I'll take that any day over some secular, flesh edifying mess.

That's just sad.
You obviously have no clue about marriage, human relationships, and weddings. Weddings are about the couple and celebrating their new life together -it is not a worship service in the traditional "lets all get apostolic at the alter!" sense. Solomon obviously had to qualms about praising his lover with nary a mention of God.
And for the record, our music (very non-traditional) was the Colwyn and Allisa love theme from the movie Krull and we played the instrumental version of the theme from The Mask of Zorro during.

Re: That Old King James
Not that it would be true of Bro Robbins, but the mentality that everything, even a wedding, must be spiritual in nature reminds me of a very sad story a very good old friend of mine told me.
A young couple in her Alabama. uber conservative church got married. The Bride and Groom's parents were both of the typical churchy "never talk to your kids about sex other than to tell them DON'T DO IT" nature. So sex never was talked about. They were Christian schooled. They had little contact with non church folks.
So on their wedding night the groom calls his best friend, who had been married a while, embarrassed because he told him they didn't knwo what to do! See...it's great to be spiritual, but there is a line when it just gets stupid.
This would be that line. When you are so sheltered that you don't even know how to "let nature take it's course" you have left the realm of being reasonably spiritual. If you are too spiritual to enjoy the pleasures of marriage without thinking you need to go speak in tongues for an hour then you have a problem.

Has absolutely nothing to do with God's purpose for music....and how a Christian should use music in their life...

Re: That Old King James
This saddens me. I was blessed by seeing that young man sing that song. That's why I included the words. There is a great message in that song and a great testimony of how the Word of God can affect us and help us.
I don't know anything about the young man who sang it. I don't know how committed he may be or not be to the Lord. I'll leave that between him and Jesus Christ.
As far as the whole "secular song" thing. I did not participate in that thread and the only comment I have on it is this. In my opinion, the "secular music" thing falls into the category of Romans 14. If you think "secular music" is wrong for you, then don't sing it or play it but don't judge someone who does. And, if you do not think "secular music" is wrong, then enjoy it but don't judge someone who does not listen to it.
This is a quote that I have put on facebook a couple times:
"A lot of our convictions are preferences, and that is all right. But don't impose your preference upon someone and call it holiness."

Re: That Old King James
I am a very conservative Apostolic ....this means that I believe and teach 3 steps, outward expressions of Holiness, etc.
However there are certain aspects of life that should be judged by thier content and music is one of them. I approach music the same way I do reading. If I am reading fiction, non fiction, viewing news or reading online, I am careful of the content. If it is objectionable I stay away.
I enjoy a good love song, or nice guitar piece. I know quite a bit about music and songs, and stay away from the trash and enjoy good music. I love to listen to Classical, Jazz, Blues, Country, etc as long as the content is alright.
I dont listen to "Dont fear the Reaper" "I want to sex you up" or trash like that.
I am also a guitarist that loves to to turn it up loud.
