I have spent my fair share of time shooting big bore handguns. It has at times been a hobby I have spent more time on than might have been strictly healthy.
And handguns of that caliber have a LOT of recoil and muzzle blast, far more than any 11 year old I have ever known of could handle effectively, especially and hit anything.

I know what you mean. My son, when he was on leave in December, got a Colt .45. We shot it a lot and it packs quite a whallop! This gun is similar to a Desert Eagle, which is also .50.
On the other hand, all the kid would have had to do was hit the pig once with a pistol like that and he was going down. From there, it wouldn't have been too hard to finish him off.
