Just read through the website, very interesting! I have a friend who just gave me some clover sprouts that she sprouted herself, and I've been using them on sandwiches, and in salads, very, very good! Thanks for sharing this link!

Re: Good Intro to Preparedness
I will post some pictures soon of our potato barrels. If they produce even HALF of what they claim, 3 or 4 could theoretically provide all our food (along with a few bags of salt and oil and other herbs we're growing).

You're welcome! I just love this site and am thinking of buying these just to sprout and eat now.
Here's another site.

Don't forget to buy spices that are organic and not irradiated such as turmeric, curry, ginger. The curcumoids in them are great antioxidants and reduce inflammation in the body.
Anybody ever drink turmeric milk? The people in India love it.

I'm reminded of the situation with preparedness by the story of the little red hen who worked so hard to prepare her bread, and no one wanted to help her. Then, when it was freshly baked and out of the oven, all of sudden everyone was on her doorstep wanting some. This is basically the mentality of most people. Unfortunately, the thought of having to hurt or run off people who are hungry does really bother me, especially when they could have prepared and didn't.
And that brings up a picture in my mind of the scenes in the bible story books as a child which showed pictures of Noah and the ark, and the people outside the ark who were banging on the walls of the ark wanting inside, but it was too late. I pray the Lord will grant us all wisdom should that day come to us.
But, in the meantime, it is wise to be as prepared as possible... for we do not know when we may need it, but if we do, we'll be glad we did.

Yup. Just like Joseph, God requires SOME preparedness on our part. Sure, He may save us from a random reckless car hitting us when we cross the street, but that doesn't mean we can stop looking both ways before stepping out into the road. It is the same thing when it comes for preparing for an emergency.

Re: Good Intro to Preparedness
I think some preparing is good but some of those preppers on that show just make me sad. It's like their kids can't relax and be kids. Moderation in all things....

Red clover is allegedly a good blood purifier. Here is a good book about plants that grow wild that can be eaten.

They always show the more outlandish preppers for two reasons: It makes for a more interesting show and two, it kinda defeats the purpose of prepping to get on a show and let the world know your doing it.
As far as this last episode goes, the first family were living in a state of fear bordering on terror. They were not too smart either -if your going to stock pile food, you do NOT hoard cans and jars of it. You store the good old freeze dried variety with the 15-25 year shelf life. Canned food simply does not last long enough to warrant having a multi-year supply on hand. It makes sense to have a few months that your constantly rotating through, but not years worth.
The 2nd family was one of the smartest ones ever featured on the show and most likely to survive a total collapse long term. Just moving to Costa Rica (which is something were looking into ourselves down the road) is 75% of the work and as you saw, it is very easy to live off of a couple of acres there.

Right, we don't just live life making foolish decisions, and living like there is not going to be a tomorrow.

I agree with this too... a moderate amount of preparedness is much better than none, and no need to live in fear either.... Jesus said many times, do not fear, be ye not troubled... we should prepare modestly for uncertainty or disaster, and yet at the same time learn to watch AND pray at the same time, because I believe the Spirit will lead and guide us in those days as to what we need to do. Both are necessary... watch (preparing) and praying...

Re: Good Intro to Preparedness
Good Morning all...Randy you mentioned your water limits, we have a Berkey water filter, which is expensive to purchase up front but in the long run it pays for itself. The filters are amazing and last a long time, of course if you were putting really muddy water though it, it would not work as long. I just changed our filters the other day and I think the first ones lasted about 3 years. Here is the web site that I bought ours from and it was the best price I found. https://www.pleasanthillgrain.com/We use ours every day. We do have some water storage and if and when we open those containers we will run the water through the filter, because I don't trust the plastic containers won't leach something into the water over long storage time. Water seems to be the hardest thing to prep for...
