How would that work in the case of the Supremacy Clause?

Article IV, Clause 2 of the Constitution: This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the constitution or laws of any state to the contrary notwithstanding.

The bill doesn't specify a religion. I nominate Dudeism.

You can't, it goes against NC's already established state law:

The following persons shall be disqualified for office. First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.” (Article VI, Section 8)

I believe, if I am not mistaken, that the 1st Amendment put limitations on Congress, but the 14th Amendment has all federal rights the same rights that the states would have to abide by.

14th Amendment:

"No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

I said Dudeism, not atheism!

Interesting that that is in their constitution, though. I wonder how many other states have something like that.

states are not allowed to violate the constitution.

Found 8, which includes NC that I already posted.

Arkansas: “No person who denies the being of a God shall hold any office in the civil departments of this State, nor be competent to testify as a witness in any Court.” (Article IXX, Section 1)

Maryland: “[N]o religious test ought ever to be required as a qualification for any office of profit or trust in this State, other than a declaration of belief in the existence of God….” (Article XXXVII)

Mississippi: “No person who denies the existence of a Supreme Being shall hold any office in this state.” (Article XIV, Section 265) Ironically, Article III, Section 18 of the state’s constitution declares, “No religious test as a qualification for office shall be required.”
