After being offered an invitation to join the NAACP, klansman and white supremacist John Abarr accepted.

However, the black person who invited John Abarr to join the NAACP, Abarr did not offer Jerry Simmons an invitation to join the klan.


"You have to be white to join the klan."


This meeting was instigated by Jerry Simmons of the NAACP in response to the hateful lliterature being distributed in Gillette, Wyo., about 130 miles north of Casper, and reported beatings of black men out in public with white women.
