Re: Born again-ism (Paul Washer)

Take up your cross to follow Jesus is NOT a message most Christians know about... they believe it is more like what I like to call the "Santa Claus" gospel... do good, and get your wish list fulfilled, be blessed and not stressed... etc.

I am glad to see more and more people realizing that when you become a disciple of Christ, you have laid your life down, and picked HIS up, it is a call to die first and foremost... not a call to live life unto yourself, but to live unto Him.

And with that consecration and dedication... that is the only REAL way to live this life... it is the best life you can have on this earth... anything else is deceptive, and miserable. Money can't buy happiness... only JESUS can give us anything that has eternal value.

Sure doesn't sound like Cornelius.

Act 10:1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
Act 10:2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

Jesus must not have know about the "total depravity" doctrine.

Mat_12:35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

I understand what the article says, but in reality TOTALLY DEPRAVED to me is the Ted Bundys, Hitlers and sex perverts. Not every sinner is depraved. I have personally met some folks in my life that were good moral non-church going un-regenerated sinners. I have an old gent that lives next door that hasn't been to church in years and years (and that was to a funeral), but he wouldn't hurt a flea and would give me the shirt off his back.

I understand where you are coming from but people love darkness and flee from the light.

I was cook at a nursing home when I first retired from the Navy and one of the residents was the sweetest ladies you could want to meet but she was a God hater and professing communist.

While you could argue that Cornelius may not fit Washer's model, in the eyes of God (where it counts) he was just as depraved as a person who drank sin down like water. God would not let that good man continue to live in a false sense of security. He sent someone who would tell him how to be justified by faith.

Originalist, I agree completely. except where you said, "He sent someone who would tell him how to be justified by faith" Most people that believe that they are justified by faith, believe if they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, they are saved.

Don't you mean, that God sent someone that would show him the 3 steps to salvation?
Your Post bothered me, until I had to ask.

Oh I agree that Cornelius was lost, I'm just not sure I would describe him as "depraved". Heard a message by an old timer years ago about Cornelius, he entitled the message "Looking For The BEST Lost Man In Town". His text?

There was a certain man in Cćsarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. (Acts 10:1, 2 KJV)

And..........

And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; (Acts 11:13 KJV)

Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. (Acts 11:14 KJV)

Feel free to use the message.
