David even misinterpreted the Word of God.

1Ch 22:8 But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build a house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.
1Ch 22:9 Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
1Ch 22:10 He shall build a house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.
1Ch 22:11 Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee.

Solomon echoed those words also.

1Ki 8:18 And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build a house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart.
1Ki 8:19 Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name.
1Ki 8:20 And the LORD hath performed his word that he spoke, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built a house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

But what God did say was this.

1Ki 5:5 And, behold, I purpose to build a house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build a house unto my name.

We see this fulfilled in Matthew 1:1

Mat 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

The Temple Jesus Built was His Body, the Church.

Joh 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Joh 2:20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
Joh 2:21 But he spake of the temple of his body.

Paul wrote,

1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Again, men build temples, God builds Tabernacles.

I had never thought to look at the pictures of the inside of the Little Rock edifice. Wow is all I can say.

You raised some interesting issues. I do agree with what you said "Man builds temples. God builds tabernacles". Indeed, we are the tabernacle that the Lord dwells in, not buildings.

While I might not like the angel hanging over the platform, neither am I going to criticize him for having a fine edifice dedicated to the worship of Jesus Christ. Everything I hear and see tells me that he is a fine man, with a fine church, doing a great work. Never have been to the Little Rock church, but would like to go.

He should put an accurate representation of an angel. Not a man with wings.

Re: The Pilgrimage to Little Rock

May I say, as our dear sister Cindy used to say, Good Grief! I guess I should be amazed but sadly am not at the things people pick to gripe and complain about.

Different churches have different personalities and appeal to different demographics of people. For folks who seek a traditional building for their services I think NLR is hard to beat. An absolutely beautiful building that was built and paid for in a responsible way. That church is not in debt millions of dollars for that building.

I am eclelctic and enjoy both traditional looking churches like this one and the modern distressed look of the church I am a member of that meets in a 113 year old warehouse / factory that was converted into a church building.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Amen.

Songs of Solomon 8:6 ......jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Re: The Pilgrimage to Little Rock

You know what's absolutely amazing, God is SUPPOSEDLY against these "man-made temples" and yet...

2Chron. 7:1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.

2Chron. 7:2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD'S house.

2Chron. 7:3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

Re: The Pilgrimage to Little Rock

Oh yeah, remember Jesus even went to the "man-made temple" and blessed the people there.

Matt. 21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
Matt. 21:13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Matt. 21:14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
