Downside_____________large number of relatives and saints I know personally, that would Never again go to a UPC church. While I don't think the UPC saves us they had a blessed past.
Right - commenting on the bolded - around the early 1970s is when all the "holiness standards" became the hot button... I have family who have been in Pentecost for many years, and before the 1970s, the dress code wasn't an issue. It became an issue for everyone during that time period.

Interesting that you've admitted that... most go back to Duet. 22:5 to find where standards started, lol!

Re: Standards

I believe ALL of this has been discussed and discussed and debated and debated a 1001 times along with water baptism and the Godhead. Reminds me of the song, Here we go around the mulberry bush, the mulberry bush, the mulbery bush.

1. Who sets the standards in a church?

2. Can "extra-Biblical" standards be required of church members

3. Is compliance to mandatory standards fair?

1. God

2. Depends on the intent, but yes.

3. If you want to be in leadership in your local church, then you'll follow the rules, dress code, etc.

So I've heard this or that has been discussed 1,001 times. But as long as the discussions are still beneficial then why not?

Too bad many churches use "standards" to qualify/disqualify people from ministry rather than the requirements of 1 Timothy chapter 3.

Some people don't like hearing the truth.
Holiness is right.

If you don't have the heart to follow, you won't have the heart to lead.

Who said it wasn't?

Hebrews 12:14 NLT
Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.
