Re: GOP’s Rand Paul Calls For 14.5% Flat Tax

How bout we just follow the Constitution as intended and abolish income tax altogether? It's like after being robbed at gunpoint for 20-40% of your income everyone is all gung ho for a guy who says "Hey, we'll just stick you up for 14.5%, how's that?"

We get what we deserve.

We have a huge system in place. It would only be logical to think it through on how we could make the adjustment. A very HUGE amount of unemployed people wouldn't be good for America. I would be concerned for my fellow Americans who are only getting a job with the government because they need a job and the job was available to them.

I haven't heard what anyone would do about these people.

A large part could go to work in their nearest state jail, making license plates for sale to foreign countries that like to keep title on their subjects' personal vehicles?

Re: GOP’s Rand Paul Calls For 14.5% Flat Tax

It would take a Constitutional Amendment to get rid of the Federal Income Tax. Sadly, I don't see this happening. Therefore, I think a Flat Tax is the best option until passing a Constitutional Amendment abolishing the Federal Income Tax is possible.

The Flat Tax would begin to downsize the IRS. That is a good step.

I know regular people who work for the IRS. It is just a job. They aren't on the level of a Lois Lerner - who I am in favor of putting to work making license plates. Taxes are the law of the land, and the majority of the employees are working to pay their bills.

The Constitution does not have any stipulation against an income tax. In fact, one could argue that the call for the "general welfare" (not to be confused with the welfare state) is grounds for exercising an income tax. However, I am all for an alternative system to income tax. I'm not sure this is the best solution, but I'd love to at least see one be seriously considered by congress.

Remember, the American Revolution was *NOT* about taxation, it was about taxation with *NO* representation.

Mind you, I think we're nearing a point where one could argue we're almost there again.
