Re: What Do You Do When Your Faith Is Weak?
JD - I have sometimes been too discouraged and troubled to do anything but hang on. I believe that in those times, the prayers I prayed and verses I studied, before the bad times, have got me through.
My last really bad time was about 10 years ago.
Looking back I am amazed that I made it though.
But, the Word has always been able to minister to me more than anything else.
And there is always a triumph on the other side of the trial.

That puts me over everything that could come against me. And i encourages me to know I have power over it all through Christ.
Satan threw his best at Christ and that was the power of death. And because Christ resurrected from that death, He overcame all the power of the devil. And since the same power that raised Christ is in me now, and it overcame the devil's greatest force of death, then what can the devil do to me with lesser things since I overcame the power of death through Christ?
And THAT encourages me.

I was simply going to say, I keep reading the Word. No matter how I feel, I keep reading His Word.

Your emotions can never be trusted, but the Word of God can be.
His promises are still truth, even if you don't see them at work in your life. The word of God is what keeps me, and has kept me. It is the only truth that will stand the tests and trials of this life.

What, nobody does the chocolate fix anymore?
Seriously, though, I remember the Psalms. David had been there, done that. And God preserved his prayers and songs for us to know, it don't mean nuthin'. Nothing new, others have been through it before, so I know "this too shall pass" and I'll see the deliverance of God - one way or another.

The bolded part reminds me of the scripture, "though my flesh be destroyed, in my flesh I will see God."
Job 19:25-27
Though I usually repeat it to myself, "Though my flesh be destroyed, with my eyes, I shall see God."
I think there was a UPCI choir who made a gospel recording and this verse was quoted like this in one of the songs they sang.

Friendly tip... it's not bolded. It's emboldened.
Carry on.

Re: What Do You Do When Your Faith Is Weak?
Faith comes by hearing, and it is hearing that comes by the Word. I have yet to see a very good expo on this; the verse is often shortened to "faith comes by hearing the Word," etc. For me, what faith i have is reinforced by "hearing" the Word played out in daily life, in the smallest things sometimes. But another reflection is, faith for what? Your faith can be strong in some areas, and in others not so much.
Faith is a gift, also, which seems at odds in regards to "faith comes by hearing." There are ways to develop faith in specific areas, but i would examine these to insure that you are not trying to develop faith for something you just want, and may not need.

Shaz, you make things up as you go along, with no rational basis for the things you say you believe. You also are highly prone to offering your advice to everyone here, in such a way that indicates you obviously think you are the teacher and we all poor slobs have missed it.
Here's an apple for the teacher: You are yet another victim of anti-reality matrix programming, you have jettisoned the very basis of critical thinking - a worldview grounded in Realism. Socrates would have no questions for you.

hmm well all i have is an opinion; but i thought those were all pretty much just Scriptural repetitions. Yes, i am just mentioning apparently conflicting reflections on faith, as i find cognitive dissonance instructive, but what do you disagree with? Isn't " What Do You Do When Your Faith Is Weak?" a request for advice? I'll consider your comments, ty, but i am just a poor slob who has missed it, myself, as you note.
