I went to a funeral last year and the message was simple but deep and thought provoking.
The sister was in her late 30's, a mother of 2 boys, and had struggled against cancer for a while before the Lord took her home.
The 2 main points of the Pastor's message were A) we should all be happy for our departed sister, because "precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" (
Psalm 116:15). and B) we really have to examine our lives so that when its our time to go, our passing will be precious in the Lord's sight (since
not everyone's passing is precious in his sight!). Simple but profound.
At the end, a visiting minister who was on the platform gave an opportunity that if anyone didnt know the Lord, they could come up for prayer. No one did, but I still think it was an good idea to make that invitation avaiable. I feel like the Lord planted some good seeds with that messge, both for saints and sinners alike.
