If I talk to a Democrat they act like there was nothing good about the Republican speeches...then when I talk to a Republican they do the same about all the Democrat speeches. When in all actuality I believe that the professional speech writers on both sides are too good for that to actually be the case. I am not afraid to admit that I did hear good things at both conventions and that gives me a framework to honestly discuss the direction I want us to go in.
I see people ridiculing liberals for being so affected by an Obama speech and by words in general...then melt like butter at a Palin speech. The reverse would be true too. Some Dems will say that they were just words but swoon at an Obama speech.
Somebody stop the teeter-totter long enough for us as citizens to have a balanced rational discussion
good luck with that tstew, the gauntlets have been thrown down, it is war, lol

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.
that law about weapons was passed with a very very very high %. it was something that everyone on both sides knew that needed to be done and there was absolutly nothing political about it. it was simple congressional business. trumpeting that is akin to getting all excited that Obama can dress himself.

Obama tries to give off the aura of being "transcendant" but if you will pay attention to his speeches either right before or right after he disses the "politics of old", yada, yada, yada, he then proceeds to engage in EXACTLT the same behaviour he was deriding five minutes earlier.

I have absolutely no problem with canidates of either party pointing out things about their opponents as long as they are accurate and not personal attacks. Sarah Palin's speech met that criteria.
CC, there are plenty in the Republican attack machine who can go after Obama's weakness. I just understood part of the initial value of Palin to be that she was not a part of the machine and was going to offset Obama's "no more politics as usual" appeal.

As far as the dissemination of the info, That is to be expected nowadays. As a matter of fact, they are currently looking at editing done to her wikipedia article by someone apparently connected to her in the hours leading up to her announcement.
I'm sure that the issue with the husbands DUI was also among the things in the report that you alluded to earlier, so that would not have been a new find.
The issue with her BIL was also already common knowledge and is not just about her bad relationship with him, but her alleged firing of the Public Safety Director for not firing him.
That's right he was fired.

But I don't know if I agree the DUI, and the firing of her BIL is common knowledge as most of us never heard of Palin until last week--honestly there had to be some digging, especially with that old DUI violation.

You know, I can't say that I am not throughly convinced that "A" Dem and not "The" Dems are behind the smeer champaign. I think politics are just that tough in the ring period.

the point that the Republicans will make is that Palin is being subjected to media scrutany (sp) that Barak Obama wasnt.

case in point. the media has reported and repeated repeatedly that Palins husband got a DUI. what we find out is that it was 22 years ago when Mr. Palin was 22 years old....

the second half of that is that when Barak was about that age or slightly younger, he has admitted to being a hard drug user!

The people who are trying to disqualify Palin for her husbands DUI, have never once suggested that Obama HIMSELF is disqualifed for the same if not worse behavior.

Does that mean I think Obama's drug use at that age should disqualify him? Absolutly not. but it does mean that the people who will decide this election for the republicans see this hypocracy. THAT is the point.
To be honest, I hadn't even heard or read about the husband's DUI in the things that I have been reading.
And it is a particularly hard sale that the report was done at the behest of Obama or even the DNC, since it was done while she was still mayor of Wasilla and basically unknown.

Re: Gov. Sarah Palin's acceptance speech

I did not get to watch Governo Palin's speech until about 11 pm last night after I got home from church and visiting with Carp.

Leaving the restaurant I was a nervous wreck wondering how it had gone so I called my 9 month pregnant daughter and asked her. Her answers was "I am a lesbian now and in love with Sarah Palin!". LOL!!!!!!! I said " I take it she did good then?".

This morning finding out about her teleprompter problems makes her speech even more amazing.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I felt your pain in the last rew years Tstew. Let me personally invite you to vote them both out and vote for Bob Barr. http://www.bobbarr2008.com/ That's probably where I'm headed for the first time.

If your sick of both parties and are a true fiscal and social conservative, it's an option. I'm past the spin of both Repubs and Dems.
