That's not how it's defined, but okay. Holiness is "the quality or state of being holy" - literal definition; that makes holiness the attribute, not holy.

We're just going around in circles.

When it comes to the very essence of His substance, God "is" love.

It's all a very big difference.
Why if God's nature is love instead holy, why does He never refer to Himself as the Loving one of Israel or why does He not call Himself the Loving Ghost? Why is it that He always refers to Himself as being the Holy one of Israel, or the Holy Ghost? Why is it that the very first description of the as yet unborn baby Jesus is that He is called holy not loving?

Wadr, isn't that supposed to come after the 'Every inch of skin will be stripped from you' part?

If you are asking if is supposed to happen after we die or after the rapture then the answer is no. It should happen while we are alive on earth.

Re: Sinful housework

Hmm, i'm curious how you got to 'after we die' based upon that quote? And granted, there is also 'joy' involved, yes. I'm trying to point to the 'every inch of skin stripped from you' which seems to have been minimized--or eliminated--in church.

I believe that love is holy. We often equate being "holy" to having certain standards of our tradition. When we say God is holy we often give a list of what this means. Things like, "God doesn't lie... etc." But the essence behind all that God does and doesn't do is what? Love.

God is holy because that is His very nature it would be impossible for God to be anything holy or to act/respond in any way that is not holy; however there are multiple times in the Bible that His hatred is mentioned. If God's nature was purely love then there would never s any mention of God possessing hatred toward anything but this is not the case. When we look at His nature as holy on the other hand then it is no contradiction to speak of God hating since it would be a holy hatred.

As to holiness being based on actions/standards in either God or man this is not the case. Actions and standards deal with righteousness not holiness (a truth I preached last night) holiness on the other hand is a state of being.

This is wonderful Luke. It is good you are teaching that holiness is not a physical thing, but a spiritual thing.

Righteousness or righteous living is the outward expression of inward holiness.
