bcarolb....

I just want to thank you for your openness, and in some cases, transparency concerning this. You did not have to come here and share this...but you have added a personal touch to this story. I am actually shocked he was as well known as he was.

Just know that all of our prayers on this forum are going to everyone involved.

He came from the baptist/AG world. He had no connections and yet preached for some of the best. He has singlehandedly destroyed his life. I think of the scripture that says.. On the morrow they stripped the slain...referring to the sons of the king strewn on the battlefield. I hate debates but he was the best I ever heard at it. I should know we debated plenty. People had plenty to dislike about him, no doubt, such as his constant pratical jokes and decorated cars at weddings. But the fact that he was gay all along???? I guess I'm just tired of overbearing folks who try to pretend they knew something was wrong. Sorry is that too strong?
It sounds like he fits the stereotype that some that preach the hardest or in a mean fashion have deep issues themselves they are fighting.

I am not saying all ultra cons have issues but I am saying that ones that are the meanest about it seem to many times.

In reading your posts here I really admire your attitude and spirit. It is wonderful that you have not let bitterness or hatred take hold in your life. It is good to hear you still love your SIL and are praying for him. Sometimes it is really hard to remember to hate the sin and love the sinner when someone has hurt you or ones you love so badly.

Hey...I just noticed this, sorry, had to respond...that was just a funny anecdote...certainly not something we "disliked" him over. We did make an immediate stop at the car wash before continuing to our honeymoon in Branson! Jeff was really irritated and fussed about it while he was washing the car, but it wasn't a big deal.

Since evidently it is I who was referred to as something not being quite right about CG I will answer. I NEVER suspected one time he was gay or immoral. I was only speaking of his preaching in general although he was quite good and super intelligent just something about it didn't have the ring. I said that THEN and I say that now. I am friends with the Georges they thought he walked on water so I never repeated to them.
Timlan his affirmatives were awesome, his rebuttals were lacking but his affrimatives made up for them. He visited during a revival once and I had him testify but he never preached for us. Four of us rode up to the UPC conference at Indy. I did have the pleasure of meeting his wife once. I feel for this hurting family.

Trust me, you have to get in line if you think it was you who brought on my "tirade". Your statement only reminded me of it. I said before not everyone liked him, I loved him and still do so I overlooked a lot of stuff because he was family. I was not in any way intimating that you knew he was gay. He has told me that a lot of people did but they were men of like thinking who were hiding just like him. Gaydar I think he calls it. To know him is to disagree with him, after all he was the great debater. Just wanted to clarify.

I understand that. I never liked him either. He was just way too "stuck on himself" for me. He talked down to others. I never thought he was immoral or anything.

what do you describe as "code of conduct" ? behavior ? lifetyle? attire?

by today's world's standards of conduct, yours is also probably considered legalistic or bondage don't you think?

Is he positive they were/are hiding or is that just something he says?

Any of the heavyweights?
