I wouldn't do it. you're putting your family in harms way and putting undue stress on your family in TX.
that's my final opinion

I hear ya. I would move in a heartbeat. I live in a very small, one horse town with no industry or prospect of growth. I'm ready to go.

Forget Santiego! Move to Algarrobo, Chile . It has the worlds largest outdoor swimming pool according to Guiness Book of World Records. 3,500 feet long!!!! Try to "swim laps" in that one.

LOL!!! I think I could single handedly clear out Wakikki Beach when I get there in a few days if I showed up in a Speedo.

I am not sure what part of Chile that is in but I saw a pic of the outdoor pool and it was pretty amazing. I believe it is on the coast because it looked like it was next to the Ocean. Then the question would be next to the Pacific or Atlantic ocean (depends on which side of Chile)!

1 - Finances - we have to liquidate some assets and get rid of/sell some things - we try to keep our life simple for this reason

2 - Job situation - there are opportunities for teaching at international schools that will hire before we get there. Otherwise, we would need to move first, then find one. Obviously, the first is preferred.

3 - Church - there are numerous oneness churches in Santiago...we would like to become involved with the one that is God's will for us. I understand that Chile has a new UPC missionary; I was there before he came, so I never met him.

4 - Some of my family has similar reactions as StMark, but they're used to me by now, I think. Still, homesickness is a very real feeling, and it's not just me anymore. My wife and I are both excited about the prospect, though.

5 - Health - we would like to have more children, and can obviously not afford to fly back to the USA every time we have a kid. So good medical care and a job with insurance would be good. Jobs in Chile generally offer both.

Not sure you asked for all that, but thanks for asking
Br. Chile is a wonderful country even if it isn't overseas. HAHA

In the early eighties I spent 2 weeks in Santiago working for the minister of highways. The people and the food are wonderful.

The wife and I will be returning for a vacation this March after leaving Br. and Sister Alvear in Brazil.

If I was not called to pastor here I would retire in Chile.

As far as churches go Br Alvear has a brother or uncle (not sure which) that pastors in Santiago.

Good luck if you do move and remember it's not oversees I'm
One could there.
