For those not familiar with it - an ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fetus is implanted and develops within the fallopian tubes. Once the size of the baby is great than the diameter of the tube - well, both mother and baby die. The only way to save the mother is to terminate the pregnancy.
It's rather hard for a caregiver to break such sad news to an expectant mother. Things just get worse when you call the mother a "murderer." Or imagine turning to the father and saying, "I need you to sign the execution order so that the hospital isn't responsible for the murder of your child - you must accept responsibility for this murder!"
The father then responds, "What if I don't sign...?" The answer is shouted back - "Then you've murdered both mother and baby, you callow swine! Hell's too good for you!"
The mother faints to the floor, her body convulses occasionally with sobs. "So what's it gonna be, Killer?" the doctor demands of the father. "Do we snuff the dame and the baby or just the baby?"
I would prefer to avoid such an upsetting conflict, especially in a public place like a hospital.

Very good post. You are right. I guess I should have been more clear.
I am speaking of those who have abortions simply for convenience.
Also, Brother Rutledge you make a very good point. I know women who have had abortions in their past. They have repented and God has forgiven them. Sadly, many of them continue to live with the guilt of a bad choice.

It's a tough choice for anyone to have to make. My first wife got two abortions (not while we were married), and she lived with horrible guilt over it.
There are some things about our abortion laws that I believe need to be changed. I think there should be a mandatory waiting period, along with counseling on all the options available to women. I also am not in favor of late term abortions.

I had an ectopic pregnancy 20 years ago. I have never felt any condemnation or felt that I murdered the baby. It was a necessary thing if I wanted to live.

I'm very sorry about your experience, Traci. Sadly this world seems to demand as much or even more than it seems to give by way of life.
I felt that VB's poll was a bit abrupt - and he agrees. Of course my subsequent post was sarcastic - but you don't have to agree with me on that.

Personally (and I take a strong position on abortion) I would never consider your case as abortion in the terms of the context of this forum. You made the right choice!

Here is an example of you making a judgement call based on your opinion (which I agree with), but the point is that the issue of when it becomes murder is subjective to many people. It's not that (most) people think murder is ok, it's that they can't agree on when life begins - and they use that ambiguity to justify their decisions. I know you know this, but you must realize that is the crux of the debate. You can cry MURDER!, MURDER! all day long, but unless someone agrees with your definition of murder, it means nothing.

I totally agree with you, but we can take that same logic to other areas and then the question become where do we stop?
Mr. Clinton said that oral sex was not sex. So now we can argue about when sex occurs --kissing, touching, etc, etc. Mr. Clinton also smoked M, but said he didn't inhale so now we have to define and argue about what drug use is. As the old saying goes....if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it probably is a duck.
So while I don't disagree with what you said, someone needs to stand for what is right.
Whether it "is" a human life or is "becoming" a human life, human life is what is being taken. Christians need to take a stand and quit worrying about being PC or offending someone.

Re: Abortion, Where Do You Stand?
I believe Abortion is Murder, yet I am pro choice.
I believe people have a choice in not having relations, I believe they have choice in contraceptions if they can not control themselves.
I believe Abortion is being used as birth control & is an offense to God!
When I told a sinner friend of mine my stance, he saw another side of it instead of trying to trump womyns rights!

I believe the same way too.
Life isn't always black or white. Not everything is always so cut and clear.
Abortion is one of those areas-- it isn't ALWAYS cut and clear.
