Our band opened up with "Lean on Me" today! I thought it was funny, after just posting on this thread.

I once heard "Long Black Train" in a church; not during the service, but before the service started. I have no problem with that. I would be very particular about what kind of music I allowed in church. I wouldn't want something like "Friends in Low Places."
A lot of classical music was written to be sort of a prelude (there is a better word but I can't think of it now) to the service.

Oh my goodness, it is kind of funny you would mention "Friends In Low Places."
When my youngest was real little, she sang a lot. She got a microphone once after services were over and started singing that song. It was not in a Pentecostal church, but still........ Most just laughed though. And they learned to turn off the sound system when services were over.

Let it be understood that Apostolic Friends Forum is an Apostolic Forum.
Apostolic is defined on AFF as:


  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.
