Re: How did you propose marriage?
Eddie and I just kind of grew into engagement, I guess. We had just started talking about being together forever, and then we decided to go look at rings, and that was it. He did have to call my dad and ask permission though (Eddie was only 18).

Re: How did you propose marriage?
I had a big plan in mind for later on down the road, but it didn't happen that way....
Ended up after coming out of an Applebee's after eating, sitting in the truck in the parking lot, and after a lot of silent prayers asking God if that was what I should do and nervous laughter finally popping the question.
And no, I'm not married, the engagement broke up later on, thank God!
I should have done a lot more of the silent praying up front apparently!
Thank God that he is merciful to the ignorant.

Re: How did you propose marriage?
I just remember the pastor telling us we were living in sin and should make it right. We got married quickly with no relatives present.

We've had to tell this to several couples in the past few years. Our church always at any given time has 5-10 couples who are co-habitating. Our goal is to get them married and serving God together. So far, our success rate has been good.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

That's kinda how it was for me! We both just knew that our search was over.... but the story had just begun!

Re: How did you propose marriage?
My wife and I were high school sweethearts. Started dating as Freshmen. After I got back from Basic Training I had brought up the possibility of us getting married and she seemed positive about it. So I sat on it for a while to see if I really wanted to get married. We didn't have any money for anything fancy. Nor did we attend a church that even believed in rings. But one day I became determined to ask her. I couldn't let another day pass. So we were out and stopped at Best Buy. Before leaving the parking lot I stopped and put the car into park and said, "I can't wait another day." She said, "What's the matter?" I turned and looked at her and asked, "Tara, will you marry me?" She looked at me like I was crazy. And then she smiled and said, "That's a big decision. I want to think about it." So we left and went to Taco Bell. After eating we got back into the car and I started the engine. As I turned the radio on she said, "Yes." I turned the radio off and then turned and looked at her and said, "What?" Again, she said, "Yes." I started shaking and said, "Really?!" She laughed, about to cry, and said, "Yes! Yes, I'll marry you." I then put the car in reverse and pulled out of the parking space...and I immediately slammed into a brand new mini van causing over $1,100 in damage.
