I don't particularly avoid it, unless it's offensive or has a negative connotation. However, I usually listen to worship/gospel music because I find it uplifting.

I've always had a variety of music that I listen to. Lately, however, after I've been getting deeper into the worship genre and finding music that fits my taste, I don't prefer secular music much anymore. I listen to it in the company of friends if necessary, but never anything vulgar. I have to second and third all of those who commented on the CCM radio stations these days-the same songs, over and over again with the same nasally voices for the most part. Needless to say, most of the time I avoid radio.

Re: Secular Music

I listen to most genre's of music. Black gospel, praise/worship and contemporary christian. (CC because my kids like it)

Folk music (Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, CSN...) Classical (Ravel and Vivaldi are 2 of my faves) Classic rock (Beatles, Clapton, Santana....) I also like Sinatra. Tony Bennet and Dean Martin...

But my favorite genre would be blues ( John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Gatemouth Brown, Albert King, Bryan Lee...& on & on...lol)

Re: Secular Music

I was searching for good "christian" music at Barnes & Noble. Nothing worth purchasing. So I am starting a new collection of secular stuff, and apparently I have TERRIBLE taste in music.

so far:
U2- 18 Singles

Fleetwood Mac- Greatest Hits

Phil Collins- Face Value

I regret gettin rid of Coldplay, Jason Mraz, Jamie Cullum, and the likes.... blah! And now BMG does not offer the buy 3, get "X" free...

90 percent Christian music. Praise and Classic Christian Rock. The rest mostly old doo wop and folk.
