Congrats to Zak. From what little I know, the navy is a good choice.
My son joined the navy ('92)and went to Great Lakes for boot camp or whatever the navy calls it.
He was only there for a month or so.
He got a totally unexpected medical discharge due to psoriasis, of all things.

H1, congrats to you & Zak. (It seems strange to say congrats about something like that - I'm torn!) I understand your conflicting feelings, as Adam has recently enlisted with the Marines. Unfortunately and sadly, he chose Infantry as his job even though he also qualified for something much higher.
Have Zak give Adam a call. He may have some advice for him. (BTW, Adam asks about Zak all the time & my girls are always asking about Becca.)
Love & miss you!!!
PM me phone numbers. I need to talk to you too...on the phone!
As for Adam, does he have time to switch jobs? He needs to think about that for future civilian jobs. With his expertise in (you know what...LOL), he could qualify for a variety of jobs. But I know his dream is to be 'out there', but we can only hope there isn't anything going on by the time he goes for service.

I picked Zak up from the recruiting office last night and asked what job he picked. He grinned proudly and said.....
Navy Corpsman!!!
I said WHAT??? You are kidding!!!!
He continued grinning and said no, that's what he picked, although he didn't really want it, but other jobs are taken right now.
I told him he doesn't want that job or he'll be shipped out. He said they told him he has the option to stay here. In writing? No, of course not. Well, get it!
He's not scheduled for boot camp until next July, and he stated that he can change his job anytime before then. I implored him to do that and told him what folks on this thread told me.
For those of you who served in the Navy, he'd like to talk to you on the phone, if you wouldn't mind PMing me with your number and a time to call.
Is this information accurate? Can he switch jobs before boot camp?
I'm a nervous mama now.

NO, NO, NO, NO! It ****MUST**** be in WRITING, H1!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't believe the recruiters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll PM you Adam's phone number. He's not available right now, though - he's playing paint ball with his "Marine buddies." Hey, does Zak have the same ph#? If so, I'll just have Adam call him when he gets home. (I'll still PM Adam's #, though.)

I don't know if Adam could switch jobs as he's already signed his contract. That is all he wants, though - no matter what. I'm so, so sad about it. He's SO smart!! And yes, he has such expertise in "you know what" (LOL!)... in fact, he'll be taking AP classes this Fall in that subject!! I can only hope & pray & TRUST JESUS!
(FYI: I just PM'd you)

As I have said before, Zak might as well be a Marine.
I remember when I joined the regular army, they showed me on the video screen a "medical specialist" wearing a white uniform working in an army hospital. I thought "cool", I'll get to work in an air conditioned environment and learn about medical stuff. Well, I got to learn about medical stuff allright. When I went to AIT in Ft. Sam Houston I was greeted by a sign that said "welcome to the home of the COMBAT medic". I thought for sure I was in the wrong place, but as it turned out, only 5% of "medical specialist" actually get to work in an army hospital. Throughout the next several years, I found myself in a combat role as a medic for the field artillary, infantry, armored tank units, combat engineer units. I think when your son is done with the Navy bootcamp, they will put him in a Marine bootcamp so that he will be able to keep up with the marine corp standards.

Yes, Zak has the same phone number. He's got no plans for the day or evening, so tell Adam to give him a call if he doesn't hear from Zak.

Since he's not taken his second oath yet, nothing is written in stone, even his joining the Navy, so there's time to change his mind about several things. He doesn't want to be a corpsman, so he'll be changing jobs ASAP.
Thanks for the info though. I read it to him.

Adam called Zak - Zak didn't answer; so he left him a VM.
