Oh yes, the TV that was watching you!
I know one preacher taught that you should cover the TV in your motel room because "they" could see you.
It's unfortunate that preachers were able to spread so much "untruth".
Yea, there was a Louisiana preacher at conference giving everyone down the road about TV and how you shouldn't watch it while at conference. One of his friends stopped by to see him in his room and happened to lay his hand across the TV and it was hot as blue blazes. I guess his doctrine only applied to everyone else.

I remember being told the TVs that self adjusted to changing light conditions in the room were able to do so because they had a lens that sensed the light. The implication was that "in the future" the TV could be set up to "watch you!"
Instead, "the future" simply did away with the TV tube altogether. Modern plasma and LED televisions simply could not be fitted with such a feature within the tube, because there is no tube.
Those were Apple Mac products which are notorious for hiding control features from the end user.
I wish I could find the article, there was a case last year, I believe where, a geek on call type installed software in PC's to remotely turn on webcams, of his more attractive female clients. Unfortunately, for him, He didn't consider the fact that someone might notice that the light on the webcam was coming on by itself. Ultimately it was traced back to him.

I have heard this from many people during the 80's, and not just from apostolic scare-vangelists. The radio show Point of View had their share of high strung guests also. It was also during the time that "The Beast" computer in Europe was going to take over the planet in the same manner as Colossus: The Forbin Project (of which I posted the entire movie in another thread). Is it a coincidence that this movie came out during this time period?
Do not, I repeat do not set this image as your computer's wallpaper. In fact, you should quickly scroll down or exit this thread. Hurry!!
I grew up up with dorks asking me 'rhetorically' ... "But why, Dave?" and, "You seem angry, Dave..." and, "I thought the mission was going very well, Dave..."

Amazing how often the line "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that." comes in handy, in real life!

A popular endtime conspiracy that I heard a lot in the 80's was that you could be watched thru your tv set.
Somehow the fiber optics thru the cable of the tv allowed others to watch you. And not only could they watch you, but once the Mark of the Beast comes on the scene, and the set comes on and you're told to bow before the anti-christ ... if they see that you didn't bow, they could (this is absolutely serious what I heard) they could remote detonate the television to kill you and anyone in the same room as the tv set.
Kabloooey!
And that's why I don't have cable (or satellite) tv.
