Sam,

I personally never said this.

I was quoting a line, an opinion from an article.

I started this thread to discuss that opinion.

My opinion is that some of Steele's critics, within his own party mind you, maybe quicker to criticize him, because of his race. Steele had to see this coming when he was selected, in the end, because of his race.

Re: Oh So Now He and the President....

If I misunderstood your post (and I very possibly did) I apologize to you JD. However, I do feel like more often than not blacks are holding themselves back in this soceity more than "the white man."

Where I live (D/FW) far too many are content to blame their circumstances and upbringing, rather than change it.

Sorry, I don't care for that, I grew up side by side in the same type neighborhood, played with those same kids, and when I got older got into the same trouble. But the difference is I came to Christ, changed everthing about myself, took up a work ethic and changed my situation. Many of the people never got out of that neighborhood unless it was in cuffs.

And it cuts two ways. It wasn't only the blacks, it was also the hispanics and whites that grew up in that (and other similar) situations. Its not a color thing, its a mentality that things are never going to get better. That your trapped, and no one cares. It is utter hoplelessness that grips people.

You did misunderstand me.

Your apology is accepted.

I agree with what you said in the bolded type, wholeheartedly.

I don't believe everything in America is equal-- but that inequality is now drawn more along economical lines, which often coincide with racial lines, but not always.

Even in economically depressed Appalachia, residents there can go to college for free, just for being from that area, regardless of their color. One would think those colleges would be overwhelmed with student applications from youth that see the need to change their lives, but it's not the case.

I think you misunderstand my stance when it comes to this stuff.

I think that I have been crystal clear in my criticism of WHY Steele was elected (selected) for his current position as RNC Chief: his color.

If you read my post, you will find that I criticized Steele's use of the race card.

You will find that I criticized Steele's false unequal comparison when he compared himself to the President: Obama was elected because Americans believed him; Steele was selected so that America would believe the GOP.Trust me, I am not the whining type when it comes to matters of race.

There are very few people I feel sorry for-- most of them are not Americans.

You have the wrong impression of me.

Please take the time to read my posts.
IMO Obama was elected for many reasons. Being black was one of them for some voters...his race represented change for them. His race represented a long sought goal for black America just as female America is waiting for a female president to prove to them the times are a changing.

Maybe people have the belief that if a white man gets elected it's business as usual and that the presidency is a good ole boys club.

And finally Obama was elected not because people believed in him but because people disbelieved in the republican party....it was hard to do with them getting slammed daily by the Dems and the media...now the show is on the other foot..That's politics
