Hmmmmmm, same to ponder. Is it really you that cracks me up ? or is it the crack inside you ?

Re: False Doctrine Part 1 - How To Stop Sinning

Any good work I do is Christ working through me. I can take no credit for it.

Any love that I show toward a stranger is Christ working in me. I can take no credit for it.

I do not believe a person can have "outward" or "inward" righteousness apart from Christ. They may attempt to produce good deeds, but without a regenerated heart, they are wayward, rebellious and broken.

Walk in the Spirit. Trust on, rely in, depend on the Spirit. When we don't do that, we walk in the flesh and fulfill its lust, which just gets us into a mess.

MB, you are right that Marty is confusing salvation and justification. And Paul never left it with a "quit doing this." His letters are robust in "how" we can cease acting like dead people.

We are all guilty. Sin is not a possession, it's left us dead, broken and totally depraved (no matter your theology on that).

I don't think we can even begin to tell the Gospel story without starting off with how grim the reality of our brokenness and lostness really is

So true. Whatever happened to "All our righteousness is as filthy rags."

The Apostle Paul couldn't live a completely sinless life with the HG, much less without it.

What a crock!!

Re: False Doctrine Part 1 - How To Stop Sinning

I did not check out the blog, but for the purpose of fairness in an attack thread we really do need to know what the author means by "stop sinning". There is more than one definition and it could explain a lot.

I strongly recommend you reading the blog. It's pretty plain.

The snippets I posted are a fair representation.

And this thread wasn't started to attack Marty Ballestero. Not even about him personally. It's about this bogus representation of the Gospel, which I called "false doctrine."

Re: False Doctrine Part 1 - How To Stop Sinning

The whole "get good to get God" has discouraged untold despondent souls over the years. Mired deep in sin, they simply can't imagine mustering the strength to lift themselves from their moral morass. So they don't try. If they only knew that it's God that makes us new creatures, not us.

God deliver us.

Yes, it is plain. I tried to read something else into it, but could not.

Re: False Doctrine Part 1 - How To Stop Sinning

QUITTING IS EASY

Even a Dummy can quit.
No experience required.
No 12-step program required.
WHAT DO I DO?

The First thing you must do is Repent. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive you!
Then quit sinning.
Isn’t that overly simplistic? NO! It’s exactly what the Bible says to do.

1. I am not so sure he is saying it can be done without Jesus nor without the Holy Ghost (I think his reference is to Holy Spirit Baptism, and not the Spirit of God working in and with the repentant candidate)

2. It seems clear to me he prefaces "quitting" with repentance and forgiveness... I would argue true repentance and forgiveness makes one pure and "sin-free" walking in the newness of life. No longer about me but ALL about HIM.

3. "Quitting" does not mean you will never sin nor does he say that. It may be that Mr Ballestero is simply using catchy terms like "Quit Sinning For Dummies" to draw folks to the heart of the matter which is a relationship with Christ... "Repent. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive you!"
