I'll tell you what doesn't make much sense: Birthers!
You see, there is no possibility that Hawaii has anything that says Obama was not born there because if they did then he wouldn't have gotten a COLB that said he was born in Honolulu. Are you with me so far? So we are left with 1 of 3 options.
Option 1: Obama has paid all that money to cover up Hawaii not having the long form. But that doesn't make much sense does it? I mean him not having a long form BC does not mean he was not born in Hawaii so why spend 2 million on that?
Option 2: Obama was born in Hawaii and has a long form BC and there is something on it that he doesn't want people to know. Well, it's hard for me to imagine anything being on a long form BC that is worth spending 2 million to hide so that doesn't make much sense either.
Option 3: Obama respects privacy so much that he will spend lots of money to protect his for no reason at all other than his respect of privacy. That doesn't make much sense either.
In reflection it seems to me that option 1 makes the most sense when we consider that him not having a long form BC wouldn't have made him ineligible to be president but it might have caused more people to really question his birthplace which could have had a negative impact on the number of votes for him or a positive impact on the number of votes for his opponent. It does make some sense to spend 2 million dollars for this cause. I think this adaquetly answers your big red question.

Re: Donald Trump Calls for Obama Birth Certificate
I'm going to hook up with Donald at Twitter!
http://www.twitter.com/realDonaldTrump
I like the bold part!
Quote:
"Everybody that even gives any hint of being a birther -- a word you didn't use -- even a little bit of a hint like 'gee, you know, maybe, just maybe this much of chance,' they label them as an idiot," he told Banfield.
"Let me tell you, I'm a really smart guy," Trump continued. "I was a really good student at the best school in the country. The reason I have a little doubt -- just a little -- is because he grew up and nobody knew him."
"When you interview people, if I ever got the nomination, if I ever decide to run, you may go back and interview people from my kindergarten. They'll remember me. Nobody ever comes forward. Nobody knows who he is until later in his life."
"It's very strange. The whole thing is very strange," he added.

Seriously, Donald hit the nail on the head - the man's past is very strange. Too strange to be leader of the free world, IMO.
