Re: Wedding rings

Several times while I was pregnant it was assumed by those in the medical community that I was an unwed mother because I wasn't wearing a wedding ring.

"Avoid the appearance of evil" comes to mind.

A pregnant woman without a wedding ring looks evil?

It looks unwholesome. It makes people think you are an unwed mother. But you are probably a man and don't have to deal with that.

A pregnant woman without a wedding ring looks like an unwed mother. Is that the kind of witness you think the church should have?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

That was the main reason that Jeff and I bought rings. My Dad's church didn't allow them either, but when I was pregnant with Hannah, I was so embarrassed--I knew that it looked like I was unmarried and pregnant.

I was pregnant with my first child, a nurse was filling out my paperwork. She looked over at my hand, and said - "You live with your parents?" A very natural assumption, since I was young and not wearing the symbol our culture customarily wears to show that we're married. What a great witness.

I guess you weren't "acting married" good enough.

On one job my wife had years ago, someone asked her, "How long have you been divorced?"
My wife replied, "I'm not divorced. Why would you think I'm divorced."
The person replied, "Well, you don't wear a wedding ring."
