Since the bible says the first man was Adam, I would say it was not man before Adam, but perhaps the angels who fell with Lucifer?

Right. And it does not conflict with the bible by adding odd ideas about another human race. I have a study of this on my website and I get into part 2 in speaking of how this is a type of how we are saved today.

BTW, FWIW, Martin Luther wasn't very happy with James being in the Bible, and another one or two, IIRC. FWIW.
And then there is the canon of books listed in the Bible itself. The list given by God. All those other canons are a teaching/doctrine/tradition of man.
