BTW if you read through this thread you'd see it's not all that common and we distinguished between churches that are Conservative with strict beliefs and don't preach that from the pulpit and churches that are the same but do the talking from the pulpit as Ultra Con.

Because your comment has to do with something I said, that you took out of context after I explained, on another thread
And as it turned out, I was right. That person did NOT want to go to that kind of church. It wasn't for her, she comes from a more moderate church.
If you like that kind of church, that's fine. Seriously.
But I never said Pastor Morton was a control freak. I used my words referring to how conservative it was and how they even were against Internet at least for the youth. You can argue against that if you want but there was another witness that confirmed it.
You need to forgive and move on Bro. This thread is about whether or not that stuff goes on in other churches and instead you dragged up an older topic where you argued with me.
Have you been in churches where other local churches or maybe even not so local churches were talked about from the pulpit?

- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Not called by name but implied strongly ... I know we and our church in general is considered "liberal" by others in the same org.

Re: Badge of Honor? Trash talking other churches
Church I got started in (in South MS) has several 'daughter works' via split. One such work has a whopping 35 people. If any members of that church attend my old church they are disfellowshipped. It's really sad. Jones County, MS is about to blow if anyone catches ahold of what God is trying to do there. Even had a book about it, Verban Bean's 'The Battlefield'.

Re: Badge of Honor? Trash talking other churches
I've heard references to other churches, "down the street" per se, but these types of criticisms were generally reserved for non-UPCI churches when heard from the pulpit.
When I lived in NC and I had decided I was coming to Orlando, I was told by "everyone" in my NC church to attend a specific church in the area because the other churches had serious "issues" and "strange things" going on that didn't appear to be of God.
The Pastor's wife in NC told me straight, "none of the churches in {Orlando or Florida, I just can't remember} are where they need to be." She even used the word "backslidden" and "they don't preach the whole truth" to describe them.
I do miss Jacksonville, NC though-- or at least my times there, the good and the bad. There was a young Pastor up the road in Newport, NC that I liked so much too.

Re: Badge of Honor? Trash talking other churches
There have been soft name calling, what I call it, over the pulpit. Though no names are stated, we know exactly who they are talking about.
The most recent one, without naming names, was a fairly larger church in my area that had gone to some extreme measures to take up offerings. To the point of literally having their ushers lock the doors so no one can leave until they met their target. Needless to say, our daughter work and other surrounding churches got called names because people who left that church after that incident decided to return to some upc churches.

The two pastors I sat under most of of my church-going life were such kind, honorable men, that it wouldn't have occurred to them to speak such things from the pulpit. One of those pastors is the one Dagwood is referring to, and in spite of receiving criticism at times, he was not one to stoop to that level.

The AOG church we belong to is very Spirit filled and the Holy Ghost falls all the time, so other AOG churches have warned people about coming to our church. Oh well more room for me to run the isles!
