i need to get my little plot fixed up. Ive decided to just stick to herbs.

we have tried to grow maters but Texas is not condusive due to the heat


my rosemary is great, but I need to spread some things out as they are growing too big.

Actually, yes. We planted our herb garden a few weeks ago and the plants are already flowering. We also planted some half whiskey barrels with potatoes. We call them our SURVIVAL gardens.

are you doing the add more dirt as the tater plants grow thing? I have heard that you can get more maters per plant that way?

Ferd, we grow tomatoes every year. You are apparently not doing it right, now corn is another story. It usually burns up.

You are correct. Once they sprout we will continue to add more soil up to several inches. And the secret is picking the potatoes without uprooting the whole plant which allows them to keep producing. We're growing reds and whites.

how do you do this picking and not uprooting?

I am doing something not right. we start late and dont do a second planting.

It is not unlike sticking a hand under a chicken to get her eggs without her moving. You just stick you hand in the soil and feel for the largest spud then twist and pull without uprooting the plant. Repeat a few days later.
