hahahaha they sure are drafty...and I think they keep those rooms cold on purpose. Anyway that is why I want to do something about it now and not wait for a serious illness to occur. Thank you so much for the info. I really appreciate your taking the time to post the links. And thank you for any prayers. I know I will need them.

Valerie - making these good choices begins with understanding how damaging certain things are that we put into our bodies. One of those things is high fructose corn syrup. Look through your cabinets and see how much food you have that contains that nasty stuff. It is poison for your body.
Eating sweet potatoes is definitely a way to get healthy carbs. There are many good reasons to eat things like coconut, pineapple, chia seeds, quinoa and kale that have been studied and shown to be excellent choices for eating more healthy.
Listen to your body. If you try something, and you feel better, then continue it. If you feel worse, then you need to try something else. Too many times we listen to what has worked for other people, but that does not mean it will work for you.
Good luck, and I think you have already taken one step in the right direction

Thank you very much. I have noticed that since I stopped drinking sodas and other sugary drinks that I am not as exhausted. The sugars used to give me energy but lately they just make me tired. Also I sleep better through the night. I will take your advice about paying attention to how I feel after eating different things. I have not even thought about that. Perhaps a food diary will be a good idea. It sure seems like fructose sugar is in the majority of items these days. Also I have started eating more fresh veggies instead of the canned ones. The sodium you save alone is worth the change.

All I want is a bacon and white bread sandwich-- 1 single slice of Wonder Bread folded into a half, with a slice or two of bacon in the middle!

Re: Social Eating
I just don't like the taste of quinoa. Maybe I need to try cooking it at home. The only quinoa I've had was a sample at Costco and I had to throw away the sample, I couldn't finish it... ick!

Yes, you definitely get more health benefits by eating fresh instead of canned. Just cutting out the high fructose corn syrup in anything you eat will make a big difference, and reducing your sugar intake will help a lot too.
