Re: Understanding Trump's appeal
PO - I would argue that you could say that about a lot of political campaigns.
"Give us Barabbas".
Give us Trump, give us Bernie, give us Hilliary, give us BHO.
Applies to at least 2/3's of voters.
Very few actually know why they vote the way the do.
Other than their emotion.

I'd wager most don't care. You'd probably get more interest if you said you knew where to find those photos.... just sayin

Re: Understanding Trump's appeal
I think Trump's appeal is simple. He has one thing that no one else has. He doesn't care or have to care about what anyone thinks.
Why is that trait appealing now when it has traditionally been unappealing? Because most Americans have seen all presidents both Republican and Democrat care too much about what people think because they might loose their elected position that they tend to do next to nothing.
Ted Cruz is closer to being the republican Obama than trump is. Ted Cruz is the one that is going to push his agenda down American's throats just like Obama has. Ted Cruz will have to do this because that is what his far right supports expect and want.
Trump is not beholden to such voters. He will be free to change opinions and do what is best in any given situation. Flexibility is an admirable trait in any leader and Trump has the luxury of being the candidate with the most decision making flexibility once in office and the ability to not be pressured or coererced into doing anything by anyone

How has Obama pushed his or any agenda down our throats?
I agree with you that Ted Cruz is beholden to the fringe right of the GOP.

Beholden....interesting. Donald Trump, in the 1st debate, admitted that he gave donations so as to call in favors at his whim. He criticizes others for PACs and donations, but he has acted like the Mafia.
Remember when he said, "I gave to Hillary and so I told her, "Come to my wedding' and she was there." LOL!
Donald Vito Corleone... Just sayin'...

Re: Understanding Trump's appeal
This is hilarious by the very far left, from his Facebook page - Robert Reich. In telling the truth, he exposes the conservatism of Ted Cruz.
5 reasons Ted Cruz is even more dangerous than Donald Trump.
1. He’s more fanatical. Trump is a bully and bigot but doesn’t hew to any sharp ideological line. Cruz is a fierce ideologue: He denies the existence of man-made climate change, rejects same-sex marriage, wants to abolish the Internal Revenue Service, believes the 2nd amendment guarantees everyone a right to guns, doesn’t believe in a constitutional divide between church and state, favors the death penalty, opposes international agreements, embraces a confrontational foreign policy, rejects immigration reform, demands the repeal of “every blessed word of Obamacare,” and takes a strict “originalist” view of the meaning of the Constitution.
2. Cruz is a true believer. Trump has no firm principles except making money, getting attention, and gaining power. But Cruz really does detest the federal government, and has spent much of his life embracing radical right economic and political views. When Cruz said “we are facing what I consider to be the epic battle of our generation,” he wasn’t referring to jihadist terrorism but to Obamacare.
3. He’s Smarter. Trump is no slouch but he hasn’t given any indication of a sharp mind. Cruz is razer-sharp: It’s not just his degrees from Princeton and Harvard Law, along with an impressive record at Harvard, or even his winning arguments before the Supreme Court. For his entire adult life he's been a fierce debater with a intensely-logical debater’s mind.
4. He’s more disciplined and strategic. Trump is all over the place, often winging it, saying whatever pops into his mind. Cruz hews to a clear script and a carefully crafted strategy. He plays the long game (as he’s shown in Iowa). Cruz’s legal career entailed a sustained use of the courts to achieve conservative ends, and he plots his moves carefully.
5. Cruz is a loner who’s willing to destroy institutions. Trump has spent his career using the federal government and making friends with big shots. Not Cruz. Most of his Republican colleagues in the Senate detest him. And Cruz is eager to destroy: He has repeatedly crossed to the other side of the Capitol and led House Republicans toward fiscal cliffs. In the Fall of 2013, Cruz’s strident opposition to Obamacare – including a 21-hour talking marathon -- led in a significant way to the shutdown of the federal government.
Both men would be disasters for America, but Cruz would be the larger disaster.

Re: Understanding Trump's appeal
Interedting to me, that biblical principles take a back seat to other things... Should they not be the #1 priority among those that claim to be disciples of Christ?
Sarah Palin signs on w Trump, who obviously doesn't even know whats written in the bible, let alone have any desire to follow it.
Dr. Dobson backs Cruz because of conservative values, and would've in the past too, but Jim Daily don't have the (?). Of course, he's shown a compromising disention w Dobson every since he took his spot IMO.
Phil Robertson backs Cruz for conservative stance on biblical principles, and even got kicked off the Dynasty show a while back for standing against gays being in sin. Yet today, his son Willie endorses Donald Trump, who doesn't ask for forgiveness of sin, probly doesn't know the gospel let alone even know what the Bible says, gets a thrill out of degrading and insulting anyone he doesn't agree with, been married 3x, and his current wife has posed naked in front of thousands.
Willows reasoning?...because like he, he's a successful business man and leader.
I just don't get it.
Why are biblical principles like abomination homosexual marriages and killing babies taking a back seat to business sense and leadership skills, amongst disciples of Christ? Are they even really trying to be disciples?

What good is a candidate giving lip service to all those wonderful Christian principles you mention when, often in the name of those very principles, the candidate(s) refuse to secure our border and allow the invasion to continue? Trump will actually seal the border.
How many "Christian" candidates ever go after political correctness the way Trump has? As a Christian, political correctness is something I'm very concerned about.
Do you want to see gay marriage brought down? Then tell your governor and State legislatures to get behind the move to invoke Article 5 and have a convention of the States to amend the Constitution. It is the only way it is going to happen. I doubt Trump will get in the way. He'll be too busy stopping the invasion so the States can have their convention.

Re: Understanding Trump's appeal
Are biblical values/principles not the most important thing we should look for in our top leader?
(Not that everything else (political correctness, or whatever) has no merit, because they do, it's just that they aren't as important).
I guess some would say yes and others no.
"I'm a Christian first, American second."-Ted Cruz
What would Trump say? Would he even include being a Christian?
Shouldn't that raise a red flag regarding priority of importance to us Christians?

Re: Understanding Trump's appeal
Ummmmm.....
Trump Spokeswoman: Malcolm X Is ‘My Idol,’ Republicans Are Racist
Peter Hasson
Since joining the Trump campaign as a national spokeswoman in November, Katrina Pierson has served as an attack dog of sorts for Donald Trump, attempting to expose his critics and opponents as faux conservatives who are simply pulling the wool over the eyes of the American people.
And yet, Ms. Pierson’s own statements reveal she is a self-proclaimed devotee of Malcolm X (whom she has referred to as her “idol”) and has a history of attacking conservatives as racists, sneering at Christians who are unable to “handle the truth” and mocking candidates who open up about their faith on the campaign trail as preachers who would be “great if we were electing a Jesus.”
