Re: UPCI Headquaters Relocation
Have you ever had an aggessive panhandler get in your face?
Or better yet, get in your wife and kids faces, because they didn't see a man there.
Tell me, how many panhandlers a day do you give money to?

I've NEVER met an "aggressive panhandler". Heard the near universal story - my sister/husband/wife/son is in the hospital, I'm trying to get there, ran out of gas - more times than is statistically possible. But never had a panhandler or beggar "get in my face". Street side crack dealers are another story, though. Had one of them on the hood of the car while trying to drive away, another time had one hanging halfway out the driver side window while we were trying to get out of there, lol. Re: UPCI Headquaters Relocation
Trust me, panhandling is very uncomfortable, if you are the victim!
I have been approached many times .....the first couple times I gave money.
Then I realized the hard luck story was nearly the same every time
In our fair city it has happened in retail parking lots as well as busy intersections with a median at traffic lights. Sorry, most of these folks
make lots of money begging, more profitable than actually working!!
It's been many years since I was in St Louis. WEC location was fine in years past but neighborhoods change.
Twenty years in same house and believe me___Our area just aint the same

When I lived in St Louis for a time, I was told the motel next to WEC was notorious for prostitution and drugs and cops were always responding to calls there.
IIRC, the Urshans had a home next to or near the WEC.

Nobody gets in my face. I have went out of my way to give money to people on the street though.
Not a regular occurrence because I do not live in a big city.

I answered your question, please answer mine.
Why would you let your wife or kids go to an area where they would encounter panhandlers that would make them feel, frightened, intimidated or fearful?

What does that have to do with anything?
I can tell you the story, but you obviously want to attempt to put me on the defensive by blaming me, for a panhandlers actions.
Really?
Ridiculous.

Re: UPCI Headquaters Relocation
You people slamming the UPC for moving their HQ out of a dangerous neighborhood are being ridiculous. I fully agree that we should have ministry to those neighborhoods and the homeless, etc but to expect the entire HQ staff to risk their life every day to go to work is nuts.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
