Where did you find the roaster and what did you pay for it (if you don't want to admit how expensive it was, that's ok lol)? {Ok, edit: I see it's a loaner}

I would LOVE to learn to roast my own.

I recently delved into the French Press method of coffee making after years of contemplating going that direction. I will NEVER go back to a 'coffee maker' again, especially since most of them use plastic tubes in contact with heat - bad mojo.

Re: The Need, the Bean and the Cup

You can get roasters (single pot capacity) like I borrowed for $75 or less

The one I am considering is this one... larger batches, cleaner, more control and better visual supervision.

Gene Cafe

Product Features

- Clear Pyrex off-axis roasting chamber allows easy monitoring of the roasting process and ensures even roasting.

- Produces a full half-pound of roasted beans, or a small batch ranging from light American style to Espresso roast.

- Convection roasting eliminates hot spots that can cause an unevenly roasted batch.

- High-efficiency chaff removal with generously proportioned, easy-empty collection chamber.

- Dynamic temperature-monitoring sensors ensure that the ideal temperature is maintained, regardless of voltage fluctuations.

- Analog dials control time, temperature and system status and permit on-the fly adjustments.

- LED displays monitor time, current temperature status and alternately display selected temperature data.

- Audible tones signal cycle changes.

- On-board diagnostics provide system status information.

- Sleek styling and small footprint make the Gene Cafe a welcome addition to the kitchen.

The individual beans are naturally glued together in the stomach of the Luwak, there is no artificial adhesive involved, yet kopi luwak collected in this fashion appears remarkably clean and is completely odour free. A bagful of freshly collected kopi luwak in its natural state is brittle and needs to be transported carefully to avoid ending up as individual beans, which are generally unacceptable to Animalcoffee.

To obtain beans while still in this state they must be collected almost immediately after they are deposited on the forest floor. Once they have been exposed to the elements for even a very short period, particularly in the rainy season, they break down into individual beans and we can no longer be sure that they are genuine kopi luwak.

Coffee feces? Well all righty then!

I feel that way about good espresso, and that will most often be my choice drink if getting it at an espresso bar.

On occaision I do French Press, but in the interest of availability and time do drink alot of brewed coffee.
