Also, Brother Rutledge you make a very good point. I know women who have had abortions in their past. They have repented and God has forgiven them. Sadly, many of them continue to live with the guilt of a bad choice.

It's a tough choice for anyone to have to make. My first wife got two abortions (not while we were married), and she lived with horrible guilt over it.
There are some things about our abortion laws that I believe need to be changed. I think there should be a mandatory waiting period, along with counseling on all the options available to women. I also am not in favor of late term abortions.

Re: Abortion, Where Do You Stand?
When I was 17 yrs old a man at my church was 89 yrs old his name was Bro. Chadwell. BC told me once that when he was 19 that he had gotten a lady pregnant and they had a abortion. He told me that everyday for the rest of his life he thought about it and regretted it. I am not certain if he was telling the truth or not other than when he told me this he said it with tears in his eyes. This is a story I tell people that I know when they talk about abortion

We do not believe we have the right to force our "religious beliefs" on others? What kind of stupidity is that? Religious, moral, civil beliefs are forced upon people all day long:
1. Prostitution is illegal in almost the whole USA except parts of Nevada.
2. Drug use is illegal
3. Polygamy is illegal
4. Child pornography is illegal
5. Smoking in public places is illegal in many places
6. Public nudity is illegal
7. Lewd behavior is illegal
8. You have to drive with a seat belt on
9. In many places you can't talk on your cell while driving
Why don't we abolish all laws so that we don't impose a belief on someone? So why do we apply that stupid argument to killing human life??????????
To abolish abortion has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with a woman's right to choose or imposing a religious belief on someone. It has to do with murder! It has to do with a civil society.
If you want to deal with a woman's right to choose then we need to abandon laws on prostitution and the rest of the items plus about 1,000 more that are listed above.

I'm very sorry about your experience, Traci. Sadly this world seems to demand as much or even more than it seems to give by way of life.
I felt that VB's poll was a bit abrupt - and he agrees. Of course my subsequent post was sarcastic - but you don't have to agree with me on that.

Personally (and I take a strong position on abortion) I would never consider your case as abortion in the terms of the context of this forum. You made the right choice!

Here is an example of you making a judgement call based on your opinion (which I agree with), but the point is that the issue of when it becomes murder is subjective to many people. It's not that (most) people think murder is ok, it's that they can't agree on when life begins - and they use that ambiguity to justify their decisions. I know you know this, but you must realize that is the crux of the debate. You can cry MURDER!, MURDER! all day long, but unless someone agrees with your definition of murder, it means nothing.

Education and personal attention beats legislation every time. Taking it out of the hands of the federal government is a very Republican concept - not sure why people don't understand this perspective.

It baffles me to no end, DS. If you ask someone if the government should have the right to force someone into a believing any particular religious beliefs, including believing in God in the first place, they will tell you no. However, they have no problem whatsoever with the government forcing women to have babies against their will.

What you don't seem to realize is that the law doesn't prevent me from becoming a prostitute, using drugs, marrying more than one woman at a time, watching child porn, smoking, flashing anyone I want, engaging in lewd conduct in public, driving without my seatbelt, or talking on a cell phone while driving. It only imposes penalties on me for doing so. That's the difference.

I do understand what you don't understand is that the 10 commandments don't stop you from committing adultery, stealing or killing it just imposes penalties for doing so. That is what "standing for" something is.
Get a clue!
