How would you feel if you went into a Ladies Conference weighing about 30-50 lbs too much and the speaker screamed for an hour about how sinful it is to be overweight?
Is that type of "preaching" appropriate?
Well, I went to a ladies conference a few months ago, and it was preached on...it wasnt screamed at us..it was talked about, scripture given and very well delivered.
It was timely, it was appropriate and LONG overdue.
And it was convicting, b/c it is wrong IMO for us to be grossly overweight b/c of our own choices. It's not good stewardship of the body God created for us and it is wrong. Just as wrong as smoking or drug abuse..IMO.
But, just like anything, if it has to be "screamed" and rammed down your throat, I'd think twice about the subject matter and the speaker. God does things decently and in order, he doesnt require screaming and antics to get his point across
which reminds me..Falla, please PM me your address, I got another copy of the CD to send to you. I'd lost mine and had a friend make me another copy. I lost your address when NFCF closed.

its not our place to judge another - we are only responsible for ourselves, so it doesnt matter what we think about another person and their condition.
Just like you cant look at a perfect pentecostal on the outside and tell they are full of all kinds of junk and sin.....it isnt our place or our business.

but the sin is sin none the less
That was my point. Can we effectively judge someone as being a glutton based on how overweight they are?
If someone were to preach that bad eyesight is caused by self-gratification and you wear glasses, would you just think nothing of it since that's not why you have bad eyes? Or would you think that the non-eyeglass wearing people are looking at you and judging you?
And that's a good reason to wear contacts.....LOL!
Sin is sin, yes, but to bring in someone's physical appearance and speaking of the sin that might have caused it would be damaging to someone who has that condition without the sin involvement.

Good stewarship with the body God gave us is the issue.
most people, I think, are overweight b/c we eat more than we burn off....
While that might be true, I know people who have to eat massive amounts of food to keep weight on and I also know people who eat like birds and gain weight.
And I wouldn't say 'most people'. There are lots of reasons to be overweight and sometimes it has nothing to do with food or metabolism. A bad heart, for instance, can make someone appear to be overweight but it's actually fluid retention. A bad liver can make someone appear overweight. Kidney failure can do the same.
Just some examples.
