POW!! ...For "Look out, Satan, look out!....Maybe from time to time those type of songs have their place, but it's hard to see when that place would be.

Anyone remember this one:

Satan, your kingdom's coming down. Satan your kingdom's coming down. You can build your kingdom all over this land; but, Satan, your kingdom's coming down?

We're gonna run til your kingdom comes down. We're gonna run til your kingdom comes down. You can build your kingdom all over this land; but, Satan, your kingdom's coming down.

We're gonna leap til your kingdom comes down. We're gonna leap til your kingdom comes down. You can build your kingdom all over this land; but, Satan, your kingdom's coming down.

I think we "had church" and God blessed IN SPITE OF THE SONGS...lol

On a note you hit in this post...

I also cannot stand songs that belittle, shame or "trick" people into praising. (like the one above)

C'mon... really? You're going to leap until the devils kingdom comes down? Really?

Then there's "I don't know what you came to do... but I came to praise the Lord." That particular verse isn't so bad... but I hate the ones that go into "I didn't come to sit on a pew" or "did you come to sit on a pew"... however it goes.

Makes me want to break out singing... "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus"

Re: What is the Worst Song You've Ever Heard?

We have had some real stupid songs in Pentecost.

Thank God the charismatics came along and taught us how to worship God in song.

LOL... Ain't that the truth.

But those songs are too ooshy gooshy lovey dovey for some folks.

That type of response reminds me of a husband that struggles with uttering the words "I love you" to his wife.

Re: What is the Worst Song You've Ever Heard?

"Satan the Blood of Jesus is against you..." from "Give God the Glory" - Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. Used to sing that song to death back in the day.

There was some song making the rounds a few years ago ... don't remember all the words, just remember the irritating chorus "Leap for joy" repeated about a zillion times. I called it the Richard Simmons UPC Workout Song. "Clap your hands, stomp your feet, wave your hands, leap for joy."

There are two songs I know that have good verses, but the chorus' to these songs are just total letdowns and ruin the song. It's as though the songwriter got writers block after writing the verses and just decided, "hey, why don't I just use one line over and over again and call it the chorus."

"Trading My Sorrows" and "I Know Who I Am" - both songs have decent verses (and the church here loves them) but the chorus' are just incredibly terrible.

Re: What is the Worst Song You've Ever Heard?

"How Great is Our god"- since the GOD referred to here is trinity since the song goes, "The godhead three in one- father, spirit, son." I could not understand why oneness folk would want to sing that and possibly cause confusion to those weaker in the faith or to visitors.

"I am a Friend of GOD"- overused in my old UPC church, luckily never sung in the assembly I currently attend, which sings a lot of charismatic crunchy-chewy songs, which I like a lot!

Our church changes the lyrics to the first song you mention to "The Lord our God is one - Father, Spirit, Son" if that makes you feel any better about it

LOL! Should we also discourage reading 1 John 5:7?

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

I understand going to great length to preserve our traditions... but come on!

Yeah, much better. Means the same thing, except doesn't use the word "three".

Father, Spirit, Son is BIBLICAL folks. Does that not matter?

Have you also changed "Amazing Grace!" to "Amazing Race!"?
