Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?
Yes. What can I say? I'm a bargain girl.
Soooooo, with only 4 hrs of sleep, I tumbled out of bed and out into the cold.
I had to be at work at 8 so my stops had to be few.
Shopko had the Nikon camera I wanted at a great price. ( I had 3 mos of torn out ads on cameras so I would know when the advertised price was really a deal )
I also grabbed a few gifts for my husband, son and his girlfriend. The out of town relatives get gift cards.

Did I mention that I crashed by afternoon. I refused to do any brain cell involved tasks the last couple of hours. I was verrrrrry tired.
Drove home, put on jammies and took a long nap.

We still had a typical CRT type set.
There was a set that went on sale at 5:00 AM that looked like a good deal. I thought they were giving out numbers - but then they said you had to sit in line for 4 hours and couldn't leave. I found the same HDTV for for $100 bucks more - I paid the extra $100 and got out of there with my sanity.
Given my own temperament and the fact that I'm willing to pay $100 rather than deal with the madness, I'm pretty certain that this will be my last Black Friday.

You may have paid more by going out on Black Friday...
Ultra-low prices for flat screen LCD TVs are typical for Black Friday. But this year, the best deals are expected to come even later in the holiday season and into early 2011.

Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?
I am one of the strange people who actually ENJOY going out on Black Friday. My Best Friend and I left at 3:00 where we went to Kohls (got there right after they opened- so no line to get in). Got the stuff and waited in line for an hour, not a big deal and everyone was in a really good mood. People were joking and chatting it up! Aside from one guy who told his wife, "I would rather receive a face lift with no anesthesia then EVER do this again! I find this hilarious because if it was a stadium he was trying to get into, he would have no problem waiting...
Next we hit Old Navy, then Target, then Penny's (yes Bratti, we got the boots too!!). We were back at her house by 7am. I will do it again next year! In the end we figured our savings to be around $800.00, well worth a bit of lost sleep and line waiting.
I will say, though that where we went shopping was in a somewhat rural area, I have done Black Friday's in the big cities before and it wasn't so fun.

Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?
Eddie and I ventured out about 9 AM and just went to TJ Maxx and Marshall's. Relatively safe and slow there. We actually tried to go to the mall, but we could not find one single parking spot, and there was nothing that we were particularly needing, so we just left. I did most of my shopping online this year.
I don't have any little ones to buy for right now, so Christmas shopping isn't as much fun as it used to be. Can't wait till I have grandkids! Renda is SO blessed this year.

Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?
I talked to my brother-in-law in Houston yesterday.
He received a call from his son at some time in the wee hours of the morning to come help him. He was in line at some store waiting for it to open and he needed a coat, some food, and someone to hold his place so he could take a potty break. So my brother-in-law and someone else went and held his place in line and then they went some place else for the shopping madness. He said they had a great time.

Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?
My wife and I have not bought Christmas gifts for each other since our first baby was born. Then over the years when our kids have kids of their own we do not buy for them but for their kids. We have 13 grandchildren and one great grand child and one child who does not have children. Most of them would rather have money to spend it however they want it so Christmas shopping for "stuff" is cut way down as the grandkids get older. Husbands/boy friends of grandkids get gift certificates.

Thanks, but I've got the TV now. Also, my son's birthday is next week so we're going to have at least half a dozen gamers up all night playing Halo Reach and whatever else. The next big flat screen was sorely "needed." I think we were about the last folks in church or around our circle of friends to still have an old CRT set.
And, it was within my budget for a cash purchase. No credit cards involved. That's the price that counts.

I paid $200 less than the stated "average" price in that article.
Recent cable "upgrades" in our area also meant that a lot of channels were formatted in a sort of "HD" format on the screen even if they weren't the HD channel. Everything seemed to be conspiring for an upgrade. My son's birthday perhaps being the biggest factor.
