I love calm and soothing colors. Dreamlight (not white, but a creamy off white) is my main theme for walls and upper walls in the rooms I have done the wainscoting. I either paint or have wallpaper for the wainscoting.
Behr paint has small paint samples for $2.95 which are such a big help. I went through only two in order to get the buttery yellow I wanted for the lower part of the walls in my sunroom. I found some Ralph Lauren panels and valances on sale. One panel was regularly priced at $85. I dressed four windows for $100. Love clearance items!
I do have to admit that I was excited about buying our clapboard fixer upper, but now I'm finding out there is a whole lot of maintenance involved and wish I had my brick home back. LOL! I'm trying to get my husband to sell, but he won't budge.

Back in the day it was 60% primary color, 40% secondary, and 10% accent.
Accent being your throw pillows, etc.

Re: Calling Those with a Knack for Decorating...
I painted my bedroom walls a light, light ice blue. When I moved in it was summer, so I had this comforter and with the dark furniture it works. I have sheers on the windows now too. I found the comforter and loved it - - I picked out my wall color from the picture they had on the comforter package (they had dark furniture too).
Now, for the winter months, I have a brown silk spread with touches of the ice blue in it. (I'll have to take a picture and add).
My bathroom is the same blue with one wall painted light chocolate - - I feel so restful when I'm in my bedroom/bathroom.
I like to change things up, so this works for me - -

Yea, it was and it seems that rules are being broken. I've been painting my walls in gloss for 15 years. Just saw them introducing that in House Beautiful last year. So, I was ahead of the curve. LOL!

I did my son's room in ice blue when he lived here. He always hated it and didn't tell me until he moved out! LOL! Very soothing in your bedroom.
If you got tired of the full walls in your bathroom, you could do a blue wainscoting. I think it would look beautiful!

The guy that helped me decorate my house said that rules were made by people that are all dead now, so there are no rules! LOL!

With just that one wall being chocolate and everything else blue I'm cool with it. I really couldn't do any wainscoting because of the corner tub, the other three walls have my shower, closet and vanity.

PO, I like those pictures. But if I had that in my bedroom, I wouldn't be sleeping. I would be lying there looking at my beautiful room, especially the lighting.

Good thing! I do whatever I want. I made my living room curtains out of 103" table cloths. I lined them and then put on a paisley border - burgundy, gold and sage green. I like doing things myself, unless, I find something I can't live without. I usually can live without.

All of my draperies in every bedroom are lined and dark. We like to sleep in the dark, dark, dark.
