- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

the problem with this is very simple, Jesus in a parable said about the lost son comming home.
the Father representing God, put shoes on his feet a rob around him and a ring on his finger. If God thought that wearing a ring was pagen or not acceptable, he made a pour choice of words on the matter.
again, the only thing that makes something pagen is the person. Its not wrong to have a ring, infact in todays society it lets people know you are married, which btw is a diminishing number.
also just because something ment this or that 2000 has no bearings in some aspect today.
for instance if i said i was gay 50 years ago, It ment i am having a good day
if i said i was gay today it would mean im having a relationship with someone of the same sex.
your logic on the subject really is your own and as long as you dont cast stones or judge then your ok, but as soon as you do which some people do then your in error.
I have not once have gotten convicted over a wedding ring, i did wear 2 other rings and a necklace, i took them off cause i felt convicted of them, but never my wedding ring, its not a object of worship, its a symbol of marriage which is given to my wife and my wife to me. really nothing more. In today's time i prefer to have one on, cause it shows that i am not available, and that there is still some one who believes in marriage.

Re: History of Rings
Rings, cut hair, women's pants, all these prohibitions are kind of foolish. Rather focus on the real issues of sin, righteousness, and the need for real evangelism.

Re: History of Rings
Usually, I am a "thread-killer" and no one responds to me...
However, I have this to say about rings. From the time I was about 7 or 8 until I left home at 19, I was in a VERY strict UPC church. Rings of any kind were taboo. I didn't necessarily agree with the whys and wherefores of how it was preached, but it was never an issue for me. I ordered a Sr class ring, but wore it when not at church. Dated a young man from a more liberal UPC church and wore his class ring - when not at church.
As I got older and moved to a more moderate church, I then began to have serious questions about it all. Oftentimes, the scripture about "costly array" was used against the wearing of rings. However, I would see these same ministers and their wives spend exorbitant amounts of money on clothing, shoes, purses, cars, home decor - etc etc.
Where I stand now - there are way more important things to worry about. Personal relationship with Jesus is the key. IF it is wrong for you, it might not me wrong for me! I respect anyone who has a personal conviction regarding not wearing a wedding ring, but I expect them to respect my personal conviction TO wear one. It isn't "costly" nor is it gaudy, but it is pretty. And there are some ministers' wives who I know have paid more for their "Coach", "Dooney Burke", "Gucci" and other purses than my sweet hubby paid for the diamond I now wear. (He got a GREAT deal and it was our 25th anniversary - when we married, I wore just a band.)
There are some things that should be personal convictions. To wear or not wear a wedding ring is one of those thing!
And that's all I have to say about that.......

a very sensible post. I think its awesome that you were raised in UPC and are still there. I agree, it is frustrating to see the money spent on expensive and extravagant cars, clothes, houses, vacations, ect. How is that modesty?
