Re: CBS Debate Tonight!

My last post and I will let it play itself out. If Gov. Perry doesn't win, I will be glad to keep him as my Governor. I have friends saying that if he doesn't win, they will be moving here. Welcome to Texas, ya'll.

Gingrich, Fannie and Freddie

“Fannie Mae is an excellent example of a former government institution fulfilling its mandate while functioning in the market economy,” Gingrich crowed, not quite accurately, for there was nothing “former” about Fannie Mae’s government status. “Fannie Mae has had a regional presence in Atlanta for over 40 years and the announcement of a partnership office demonstrates its continued commitment to affordable housing in the Atlanta metropolitan area.”

Gingrich was there for Fannie Mae again that April. A press release at the time stated: “House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) today joined representatives from the Fannie Mae, the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership (ANDP) and area lenders and housing officials for the grand opening of the new Cobb Housing, Inc. headquarters.

But Gingrich has some explaining to do about his own role with regard to Fannie and Freddie. At the very least, by enlisting Gingrich as a “consultant,” Freddie managed to get a powerful critic of government mismanagement to provide his critiques privately, out of earshot of the public.

I agree in part. Newt would shred Obama for sure, is not prone to Perry-like gaffes and totally understands the free market is the engine of the economy.

I would like a New/Cain ticket or perhaps even better a Newt/Rubio ticket

Re: CBS Debate Tonight!

Gingrich is the only "insider" with real solutions; not only that, but when he detects a certain bias in the question, he attacks the bias. I'm not sure where he stands vis-a-vis abortion rights/pro-life. He is articulate and knows DC. One more outsider like W or Obama will not fix the mess we're in.
We aren't a theocracy (thank GOD!) and I'm not voting for pope or UPC Superintendent so his divorces don't bother me.

Re: CBS Debate Tonight!

I think Cain got Palinized (or Quayled) and will never get the nomination now. I like his domestic agenda but he's pretty weak on foreign policy. I like Santorum, but he hasn't got a chance. Bachman trying to convince me that the US retirement system needs an overhaul to resemble Communist China's is downright laughable.
Perry is all over the board. I want to like him, but he's not been convincing enough for me. Huntsman, well, he would be a dark horse if anything.
Brings me back to Newt. He would debate Obama under the table, much like Reagan w/Carter and Mondale, only better, because he knows the system (I think) much better than Reagan personally did. If he can appear humble while doing it, he's a shoo in unless the Dems find an October surprise for him next year and try to Palinize him.

Re: CBS Debate Tonight!

Governor Perry was awesome!!! He is just a great person! Love this exchange. It was the best!
Quote:
During Saturday night's foreign policy debate, Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) made light of his now famous misstep in the last Republican debate.

He praised Scott Pelley, the debate moderator, when he asked a question about the Department of Energy, the agency Perry forgot earlier this week.

“Glad you remembered it,” Perry said when asked what he would with nuclear material if the department was eliminated.

"I've had some time to think about it, sir," Pelley said.

"Me too," Perry shot back to applause from the crowd.

Re: CBS Debate Tonight!

This is great. The first video is what happened after the "gaffe" debate. The second is, again, his excellent comment tonight. Love it!

It’s Saturday night, the CBS/National Journal debate just ended, and it’s time for another reality check.
