Re: Any trekkies here?

The new Star Trek movie coming out next year has a title now. It is going to be: "Star Trek Into Darkness" (notice no hyphen after Star Trek). Release date is May 17, 2012. For non theater going folks I am sure the DVD will be out around September 2013.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Any trekkies here?

For any Star Trek fans out there waiting for the new movie to come out next summer (May 17th 2013) yesterday they announced that they will be previewing the first 9 minutes of the movie at IMAX only showing of the new Hobbit movie coming out this December. Non IMAX showings of the hobbit will have a conventional preview trailer (probably 2 minutes long).

Is it actually a new movie or a remake?

What do you mean? The 2009 movie was a big budget reimagining of the original Star Trek series with the original characters played by young actors and a $150 million dollar budget. Producer / Director JJ Abrams did an amazing job.

The 2013 movie is movie #2 of this new series of movies featuring the original cast of characters. If you watch the first one (or read the novelization if you think a screen will capture your soul) you will see the storyline allows for an alternate timeline from the original series so although the characters are the same the stories can unfold differently. The first film shows how they original crew of the Enterprise got together and how James T. Kirk assumed command of the Enterprise.

JJ Abrams had a tough job trying to remain faithful to what constituted the original Star Trek while upping the game by starting with a new cast playing iconic characters and aiming to broaden the aging fan base that has been in decline. I think he succeeded in every way. Great script, great casting, great first story getting the crew together, and great producing and directing. I felt like all $150 million bucks was up there on the screen. I can't wait for the next one to come out May 17, 2013. Star Trek Into Darkness.

I don't classify myself as a Trekkie, but Star Trek is one of my favorite shows. Especially The Next Generation.
