Re: Romance Songs to the Lord

In the secret, in the quiet place
In the stillness, you are there
In the secret, in the quiet hour I wait only for you
‘Cause I want to know you more
I want to touch you, I want to see your face
I want to know you more

"Jesus is my boyfriend" songs. Yes, they are wretched. I don't feel right telling the Lord, "I want to put my head on your chest and hear the sound of your heart beating". Sounds queer as a 3 dollar bill.

Agreed. There is a fine line crossed between worshiping the Lord as a Holy Mighty and Awesome God, and bringing Him down to a human level, and speaking of Him as your boyfriend or lover.

I actually like that song, if the lyrics were just a little different. Instead of saying "I want to touch you, I want to see your face", perhaps they could say "I want to worship you and look into your face" or something like that, but instead the original lyrics intimate a sexual connotation rather than worship...

Oh, right. Ha.

Used to sing that song a lot for student services several years ago. Didn't think about it until looking at various blogs about Jesus is my boyfriend songs.

It all makes sense now...why the students sang this song with such exuberance!

Re: Romance Songs to the Lord

Think about this....there is no passage in our bible that uses the phrase "relationship with God"....That is taught by all of us these days, it seems. However it is a Human term(human to human).

The Bible only teaches us a term called "walk with God".

If you have a "relationship" with God, it changes with circumstances and moods.

If you just simply "walk with God". It is set in stone.

I dont like to tell folks that they need to develop a relationship with God, because it brings God down to their mental level, where they can even dare to cuss at God when things go wrong for them(like a buddy).

Rather, I teach them to walk with God and let Him be Almighty in their minds always, and dont you dare charge God foolishly, no matter what the circumstances you face. HE IS ALMIGHTY...

To me, the phrase "relationship with God" is some kind of a new age Christian term.

That is what this new music is promoting also.....

Re: Romance Songs to the Lord

Some of the songs mentioned on this thread are... whatever they are. Still some of the songs mentioned are not offensive.

One would have to make these songs mean or say something more than the OBVIOUS Christian worship application clearly implied.

"Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus"
I've shouted off that song and NEVER thought of that song in a twisted way before this thread.

"No One Can Touch You Like Jesus Can"
Really?
You have to want that song to be weird before it becomes weird.

"Draw Me Close To You"
Intimate, worship song-- nothing creepy about it.

"Wrap Me In Your Arms"
The version by William McDowell?

"Closer / Wrap Me In Your Arms"

Into your arms
I'm drawing near again
To dwell with you
It's my only heart's desire
It's my only heart's desire

All I can do
Is fall on my knees and cry
Cleanse me with fire
And purify my heart

Draw me close
Closer than before
Closer than I've ever been

Wrap me in your arms, oh God.
[Repeat]

So take me to that place Lord,
To that secret place where
I can be with you
You can make me like you

Wrap me in your arms
Wrap me in your arms
Wrap me in your arms

Nothing weird or gay about these lyrics and I definitely don't have any untoward thoughts when I worship the Lord with this song or any of the songs mentioned above!

Any fault found with these songs resides in the minds of those who are finding fault.
