You are right....My husband is one incredible organ player and we are white...But he says we are the only black folks in our church..lol ... I think we are racist against white people!

But... to answer your question....Dunno... you would have to ask some of the people that I have seen who find these comments offensive.
The comment only exists because of racial stereotyping.
But... as it is clear that the concensus holds that I am totally wrong I will digress.

OK Dig...compare the number of Black NBA athletes to the number of, say, Pakistanis or Arabs.
Bub, red and yellow, black and white, we are precious in his sight.
But you are fooling yourself if you don't think there are certain genetic predispositions in different racial backgrounds.
God loves diversity. Quit trying to make something evil out of that. It only becomes evil if we discriminate based on these things.

Well I am going to leave these threads and move off of this subject before y'all lynch me...
But I know blacks who find these statements stereotypical and offensive.
I just find sitting here getting chastised by a bunch of white folks that black folks are just fine with these things is a little unproductive and one sided.
I have seen different too many times.

D4T, MissBratt meant nothing offensive AND YOU KNOW IT!
Thad is like an old friend I had as a teenager. He would be black if he had a choice! He loves black gospel music, and plays the organ black gospel style. He loves the worship style found in many black churches. In fact, I believe his church is 70% black and now has a black pastor!

I wasn't attempting in any way to out and out call you a racist.
You response tells me that you do see that the basketball comment could be a racist one.

No, I really don't see it as racist, but I suppose some could perceive it that way, and as you pointed out, my statement as well.

A good reaction would be..."when I posted it I never thought of it that way"
|
True. I usually don't think to post a response like that.

D4T, I know blacks who don't find these types of statements offensive, and in fact make the same sort of comments themselves.

Then please invite all your black friends to come give their points of view. I'd be happy to hear them. By the way, are you black or white? Becauuuusseee...if you're not black, you just placed yourself neatly into the above category!

Here you are saying you basically disagree with my position that this is a racist statement but you do it in a very respectful way which allows for further discussion between us with no building anymosity.

Understood...
And my thanks for a post that, while disagreeing with me on points, is presented in a manner that fuels further discussion of our opinions even through they differ.

White...
I know of at least one black friend of mine that is on here but she is a lurker... maybe she will step up and say something... (I don't know how she feels about such statements btw... her response would be an education to me as well)
