Well, it's more than JMHO. It's a fact, because it happened that way for me. However, when the desire left me, it left me completely, but it was not initial. It took a little while and then suddenly, the Holy Ghost told me to throw them away. When I acted in faith and obedience, He removed the desire and cravings from me instantly. That was a MIRACLE!

They can't imagine that some of us DON'T smoke, therefore are not trying to justify our "sin"...

I've never smoked a cig (ok, once in a great while a friend and I will enjoy a fine cigar), but we DO own a TV -which is actually an LCD display device.
Will there be television owners in heaven?

Re: Can A Person Be A Smoker & Still Be Saved
I think it's contradictory for a person to be addicted to any substance, and yet have "freedom" in Christ. Addiction to drugs, alcohol, nicotine, prescription drugs...how can a person walk through life bound, and yet be free? It seems that one counteracts the other.
I do believe we should keep our temples as clean and healthy as possible. And addictive substances bind us, which is in conflict with Christ, who frees us. I don't know if a person can be saved while being addicted to any substance, nicotine or otherwise--not because the cigarette is necessarily a sin, in and of itself, but because of the weight or burden it places on the life of the person and their walk with God. It would be a hindrance, at the very least.
It seems to me that a person who is addicted to a substance depends on that substance for happiness or relief from troubles rather than on God. Why not stop to pray instead of lighting up or taking a drink or taking a pill?

Well, you've pretty much just sent most of this board straight to hell, 'cause I know many of us have admitted to being addicted to AFF!! Make up your mind already! On another thread you are toying with being a liberal, and on this thread you are putting most of us in Hell. It has to hurt to be so conflicted, huh?

Some take the view that smoking is a sin. According to both the Old and New Testaments, sin is defined as transgression of Torah. Nowhere in Torah is smoking listed as a prohibited act the way other acts are prohibited. According to the Torah, smoking is not a sin.
Should someone saved be a smoker? No.
Reducing the length of our lives from sucking on cancer sticks is not the best way to express our gratitude to our Creator. We're to be good stewards, and this includes the way we are to take care of the vessel G-d gave us.
