Re: JCM Reunion / AMC Conference Check In Thread

I have thought that this whole thread was for the people who were at the reunion...hummm? But that being said...I loved lookin at the pictures of the reunion on FaceBook and on Apostolic Friends Forum. I enjoyed knowing that you all were having a great time.

Please don't let others bring you down or tear you down for what you are. I have seen more great spirits, lovely threads and just wonderful friendships built over the last 3 years that I have been on this forum.

Sweet people who know who and what they are living for!

Thanks Bella! I don't think any of us are going to let the slings and arrows get us down. It is just mildly irritating like when a fly is buzzing all around your head. He is not going to hurt you but is annoying and there is no beneficial purpose in what he is doing.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: JCM Reunion / AMC Conference Check In Thread

To give you an idea of the dynamic at the JCM reunion I was just thinking about a conversation I had at lunch with a UPC pastor friend of mine during the reunion. We were discussing his church and future plans to build at a new location. I mentioned that an exUPC pastor friend of both of us had just built a new sanctuary and he said he wanted to talk to him about it. Sure enough they got together and had a great discussion about building programs.

No one cared about any doctrinal or dress code differences because we are all friends and there are plenty of important things to talk about other than our differences.

Did I think my UPC pastor friend still being my friend and breaking bread with me meant he agrees with me or approves of my religous chocies? Of course not! However he knows we have a love of Christ and friendship as a common bond.

Aren't you playing at the next one???
You would be correct. As far as "strict" gatherings--c'mon, Mark, don't be so juvenile.

Did the JCM reunion include the PBI/Tupelo years?

They mentioned PBI and the history of it moving to Jackson and being renamed JCM.

I really wasn't trying to be B4N. I couldn't think of a term at that moment.
Perhaps it wasn't the best but it certainly wasn't meant as a put down.
May I asked why it was offensive?
Let me rename it a conservative gathering, how's that?

Sweet people who know who and what they are living for!

I've had some snide remarks made to me like " how could you" and so forth.

I make no apologies for going. I am grown and if people think I am wrong for going, they are intitled to their opinion. I didn't go for spiritual edification. It was strictly a social gathering for those who attended a college. I'm not a new convert and I've been around Pentecost for a while. Everyone could not handle that type of atmosphere and I understand that too. I respect that, but I am not weak or frail.

The one scripture I've had quoted at me more than once was " what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness". But when you think about it, ALL of our righteousness is as filthy rags, no? have you never had fellowship with someone who was unrighteous? Did Jesus break bread with sinners or not? just asking.

I wasn't there to condone certain things and unfortunately, that is what a lot of people believe. The common belief is, if you attended, you are condoning certain one's lifestyle. My presbyter was there... Is he condoning such too???

Yes, there may have been reprobates there. No one went out of their way to fellowship with a reprobate. It wasn't like we had control over who was going to attend this. Furthermore, who determines when one has turned over to a reprobate mind?
Everyone there was not in that situation and those who are, will stand before God for themselves.
