I get it perfectly Mike.

I was taken back in our former argument about the Leaves of the Tree of Life being for the healing of the nations.

You went ballistic on the leaves.(to try to make folks think they are not real).

Then, after I witnessed ALL preterists doing the same thing about this verse and other related verses, I realizes that is the preterists M/O is to cause folks to lose their belief in the LITERAL word and to join you in "Mike in metaphorland"

According to many evangelical Christian churches, this might be a wise thing to consider for anyone living within the illustrated box below… Believe it or not, millions of us have been told that in the near future of our planet a MASSIVE 1,500-mile CUBED Golden City is going to (literally) “come down” from outer space, and “land” (or cover) basically the ENTIRE Middle East. Many of us who were raised in the church “know” this as the “New Jerusalem”…

Although many of you have seen artist’s renderings of that “city” coming down to land on the “Mount of Olives” where it appears (artistically) about the size of a small city, the Bible’s actual measurements are 1,500 MILES CUBED…
You might say “No one could POSSIBLY believe that!”
But you would be wrong.

Millions of Christians around the globe are now, mostly out of common sense, beginning to rethink our predecessor’s doctrines on biblical eschatology and are revisiting all those ancient texts that supposedly “painted” this rather bizarre picture of our future… For those of us in the United States, it is 1,500 miles from my home in the Seattle area to my Mom’s home in northern Minnesota… We now realize that it is not an actual physical city, but a symbolic and metaphorical PICTURE of the splendor of the BRIDE, hence "I shall show you the bride" (also see Hebrews 12:22)...
In a nutshell, our theologians promised us a gigantic (physical) Golden City coming down from outer space (which would be literally almost the size of our moon – without affecting the tides and other earth-killer gravitational effects), graves opening up, airliners crashing, a twenty first century antichrist (not biblical), 70-pound “hailstones”, a rebuilt temple (no such verse available), a third of the stars from heaven falling to the earth (even though the smallest star in our galaxy is a thousand times larger than our planet), brand new bodies that are (physically) immortal that cannot feel pain or produce salty liquid in our tear ducts, a trumpet that can be heard around the entire planet, Jesus breaking violently through the afternoon clouds like an extra-terrestrial military leader (on a horse) to stop some massive war in the Middle East (of which will be seen by everyone on the planet), followed of course by lush, green meadows with pop-up flowers where we can physically walk and talk “face-to-face” with Jesus Himself…
…but “all we got” was “Christ within” (the hope of glory).
Like my Dad used to say, “How do ya like them apples?”

Oh, and I almost forgot… A “Tree” in the middle of it all of which the “leaves” are for the healing of the nations”. QUESTION: Why would there be a need for “healing” in a Utopian paradise like the one I just described? I have a funny feeling that if Yoda was reading this he would say, in that cute growl of a voice… “Metaphorical, much of Revelation is, MmmmHmmm.” In my opinion it is not only bizarre what many of us have been taught to believe, but right up there next to (theologically) “criminal”.

There are basically two main views of biblical eschatology: The Preterist view, and the Futurist view. There ARE some folks out there who will say they have a THIRD view, but (fyi) that simply means (a different version of) the “futurist” view…

The preterist view was Christianity's majority view for over fifteen hundred years. The futurist view has since taken that majority position among Christians only over the last two hundred years or so. It actually mushroomed into the majority view that it now is shortly after John Nelson Darby began teaching it in the late 1880’s. This is when the "Pretribulation Rapture" doctrine really began...

Preterism became prominent thanks to a Jesuit priest, Luis de Alcazar, who sought to defend the Catholic Church against attacks of the Reformers. He sought to defend the Roman Church from claims about Catholic apostasy. The ideas of preterism were only swirling around, because Israel was ceased as a nation, then it gained momentum with Alcazar, upon the writing of his beliefs.

Preterism is stopped in its tracks and has zero credibility now, with the rebirth of the nation of Israel.
