Laying Meth and Cocaine down was NOTHING in comparison to the physical dependency and withdrawals of smoking. It was literally one of the hardest things that I ever did. I received the baptism of the Holy Ghost... I was delivered completely from any desire for Meth or the like, however, as hard as I tried, I couldn't quit smoking. I tried, but it just wouldn't happen. Yet I STILL Had the Holy Ghost. He didn't forsake me. He didn't abandon me. Finally a few months after receiving the precious Holy Ghost, I felt Him say to me to put them down and He would take them. I obeyed in faith and at that very moment, God instantly set me free from any desire or craving with NO withdrawal symptoms. You and King Epley and St. Mark and whoever the other self-righteous Pharisees are on this thread, can try to deny that it happened just that way, but whether you believe it or not, just like the old hymn says, I was there when it happened, so I guess I ought to know.

You people act as though you are without sin... You act as though you are the picture of perfection, holiness and righteousness, but the righteousness that you are relying in is as filthy rags. The only righteousness within me, is that which I has been imparted to me by Christ Jesus. I pray that you can see yourselves and I mean that sincerely. There is nothing that does the "work of the enemy" like a judgmental, condemning spirit of a Pharisee. You kill people with your condemnation... Why can't you allow God to be God and let Him judge people's hearts and motives? You're not Jesus, Jr! Your blood wasn't shed for sin! Quit acting like it!

1 John 1:8-10 NIV "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives."
Since when has preaching AGAINST sin become "self righteousness"?

Smoking defiles the body, God's temple. And according to Paul whoever defiles the temple of God, him will God destroy. We have been bought with a price and we are instructed to glorify God in our body AND our spirit, which are God's.

If someone cares enough for your soul so that you will not be destroyed by God, they will lovingly tell you to quit smoking.

No one preached at me to quit smoking when I was saved. God convicted me of it. Who here wants to throw darts at God and call Him "self righteous"?

Exactly who is judging whom here?

I am self-righteous because I don't give you a free pass to question if anything, anywhere, has ever been a sin?

Seems to me the only thing you think is sin is someone with a different opinion.

Why don't you go start a thread asking if child pornography is sin, if abortion is sin?

You will not find those things mentioned in the Bible. Do you think those activities are okay as well?

Further, the truest definition of self-righteousness (the word is a myth) is righteousness that stems from one's own actions. A righteousness birthed in a "every man does that which is right in his own eyes" ideology.

You seem to have that down pat.

Real Christianity demands a heartward move toward holiness.

I suggest you lose the vitriol, find a prayer closet, and get a little closer to Jesus.

Maybe then you wouldn't spur people on to sinful, destructive behaviors in the name of Christian liberty.

Be blessed!

What a bunch of cockamamie!

You doubt the power of God?

You make allowances for the flesh?

I teach they should be praying for deliverance.

I believe God can deliver.

Why would he?

All your going to do is call him a self-righteous hypocrite.

Why do you care what he thinks?

I thought I did answer her question. Listen up because you don't like the answer does not mean they were not answered.

Nina

You didn't answer these questions.

Do You not see their relevance to the subject at hand?

Brother,

If You don't see the relevance to the subject, then I can't help You.

And...

How do You know what I'm gonna call him?

The worst I'd call my brother is, "chicken" if he doesn't answer them!

It interests me to see the double standard in the UPC concerning gluttony, that's why I care.

Why are You on this thread? Brother Epley certainly doesn't need defending.

Nina
