Guess in a way I understand why PM thinks this stuff is newsworthy. He feels closely connected to the UPC family through roots and current friends and family members.

If it were the RCC we would have little interest because few have direct contacts there... It goes without saying that these stories are sad and noone is fully exempt including my own Old Order Mennonite family.

Steve, I really doubt if internet porn is a major problem for Old Order Mennonites, is it?

I guess that is true Bro. Stephen, but it does kinda lead the way for folks to really undermine the church. And I don't mean the UPC but the body of Christ. As one poster in this thread seems to delight in. Never crossing the line by using words like IF etc.... but still it is there.

Can someone provide scripture that forbids the use of medicine or herbal remedies to control pain or illness? Some people have chronic illnesses and disabilities that must be kept in check with medication, including pain management, or they simply would be unable to function normally.

Walkbyfaith, even if you take certain medications the way they are intended, your body can become [temporarily] dependent on the medicine, and when you stop taking the medicine, you can have unpleasant (also usually temporary) side effects. That doesn't mean that there is something wrong or sinful about ridding your body of pain, and in most cases that means making the pain bearable, not getting rid of it completely.

I agree, abusing prescription drugs is not a good thing--but taking necessary meds in the way you are supposed to is not bad, whether your body becomes dependent or not. Since when is dependency somehow sinful? Are people who ride in wheelchairs wrong because they cannot walk without a wheelchair? They are dependent on the chair to move around....

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

I know Kirk Franklin is not Apostolic but he was addicted to porn for a long time. It is happening to a lot of Christian men because of the internet.
